Some random thoughts:

The guy (Robinson) reminds me exactly of what Terry Glenn brought to our offense in terms of having a legit deep threat who can run those deep posts and fly routes.

It's crazy to think that a street free agent can add a dimension like Robinson has.

Dez and Miles really aren't great "deep threats," but we've seemed to find that in Robinson.

Also, how about some props to WR coach Jimmy Robinson for developing guys like Robinson?

Dez actually is a great deep threat you'd just never know it based on the playcalling

Wow. I didn't even think about this. Good comparison. I hope he brings what Terry brought to this team. Glenn was very good as a Cowboy until his injury.

And we got Glenn for dirt cheap (6th rounder I think). Robinson runs great routes so I thought of Glenn almost right away. Great, great pickup.

Austin and Robinson are pretty similar, can Dallas keep both long term?

Maybe if Jerry goes about trying to lock him up ASAP.

Right now Laurent fits in the realm of journeyman WRs who often float from team to team acting as #3 WRs. He should not be a mega signing given his lack of consistent production and his history of injuries.

However, he works so well with Romo it would be a shame to let him go in a bidding war in the offseason.

I don't really think he's that similar. Robinson seems bigger and stronger but almost nobody has Terry Glenn quickness.

I think he means in the dimension each player brings to offense because you're right, they are nothing alike physically.

Miles and Dez aren't good deep threats? That's news to me.

Her injury.

murray ran a 4.41 at the combine and on his 90+ yard TD dez walked him down like he was a full tenth second faster than murray. All of them are deep threats.

with all due respect...anyone who thinks this really does not understand how good Terry Glenn was. He was the best route runner Dallas has had since Mike Irvin. And for the record, he was the best route runner I have ever seen for Dallas in the 25 years. He was the quickest WR Dallas has had since the Rocket. And he is quicker than the Rocket. He was the fastest WR since Joey Galloway. And I am not sure who would win a race between the 2. And he is top 3 in over the 25 years with his hands. Watching Terry run routes was football paradise.

I have NEVER seen ANYONE come in and out of his breaks without losing speed better than Terry Glenn.

Terry was a very good WR. Sometimes he was great. But you can't be right. You simply can't be. Any guy with, not just elite but all-time elite speed, quickness, route running ability and hands would have to rank among the best ever. And, as good as he was, he simply was not that good. Please don't suggest otherwise. You would lose credibility.

Bingo.

Robinson adds some deep speed but Glenn was much more than just a run-by-you type of receiver. Glenn got open because he was quick and his routes were as crisp as any WR could run them. His top end speed was nothing more than separation after the fact.

Robinson might be able to separate on a straight line but maybe only Wes Welker can separate in small spaces the way Terry could.

I'm not sure people realize how good Terry Glenn was. If you put the TG that arrived in Dallas on any team with Romo instead of Vinny and Bledsoe, it would have been absolutely disgusting.

I honestly think that if he were the same age right now that he was when he arrived in Dallas and was healthy, he'd be Romo's favorite target and would be the #1 WR on the team. He was that good.

He was a bum after Parcells left NE.

He didn't want to play for that team, was deactivated at one point and didn't receive a SB ring for one of their championships.

Make no mistake, he was a bum because his attitude sucked and didn't put out the effort. Once he got back with BP, he started playing and played great.

That's definitely a knock on him but as a WR, he was a pretty damn good one.

If you want a current example of what a player with immense talent and no desire to play looks like, look no further than Chris Johnson.

Yeah, Terry was a pretty damned good WR. And you're right: he had motivation problems that could only be solved by Parcells, it seems (don't forget his stint in Green Bay, where he also failed to live up to his early years in NE). My recollection is that he was a bit injury prone as well. I suppose it's possible that bailey's right about him having been all-time elite in all of those categories and that motivation and injury issues were what kept him from being one of the best ever.

I'm not saying he would have been the best ever but he would definitely be mentioned as of the great players of his generation had he been able to get his head straight sooner and avoided injuries.

The player that reminds me most of Glenn who is still playing is Steve Smith (Carolina). Although I do think you guys might be overrating Glenn a bit, it is obvious she (oops) is alot more than Laurent is as a WR.

Laurent is playing well, and I know everything is sunshine and rainbows right now, but he is facing mostly one on one matchups with Witten and Dez on the field. He is winning his matchups, which is great for us and all that really matters, and I'm glad we got him.

Loving the Glenn love in the thread. He was a beast. Incredible hands, quickness, and route-running ability.

Not really in a combative mood. We will respectfully disagree. Sure the numbers do not reflect he was the greatest of all time. But in terms of sheer ability, he was that good. If you read his bio..and the things he went through growing up...it is not shocking why the space between his ears was not always there. But in terms of everything you look for in a WR....not many can me match what he offered. He is not Megatron...who can simply just be open sheer this his physical stature. I mean.....I cannot overstate how many things Terry could do at a supreme level
