I've been considering whether the gap, according to the various draft sites, in the overall ranking between Sintim and Sidbury is warrented. I've tried to do a back of the envelope type analysis below.

First, based on Combine numbers and measureables from sportsline.com,

Clint Sintim 6'-3", 249 lbs, Virginia
4.75 40, 34.5 Vertical, 1.58 10-yard dash, 9' 11" Broad Jump, 4.40 Shuttle, 7.37 Cone (I don't have Bench numbers for Sintim.)

Lawrence Sidbury 6'-3", 267 lbs, Richmond
4.53 - 4.57 40, 28x Bench, 35 Vertical, 1.53 10-yard dash, 10' Broad Jump, 4.43 Shuttle, 7.45 Cone

Sibury's 40 was the fastest time by a DE at the Combine, and Sidbury's 28 reps were the 3rd best of all the DEs at the Combine.

Then, based on production

Sintim in 2008 playing LB
11 sacks, 13 TKL, 70 tackles

Sidbury in 2008 playing DE
11.5 sacks, 20 TFL, 56 tackles

Of course, Sintim's level of competition was much greater than Sidbury's. And Sintim's 11 sacks is nothing to sneeze at, esp given the level of competition. I believe that Sintim's 11 sacks were among the highest, if not the highest, for any LB from a top program.

After reading all the press clippings, etc. Sidbury's most significant weaknesses include that as a DE he lacks sufficient size (only 6' 3") and is an easier target to run against (at only 267 lbs). At times he has to go around blockers given his size disadvantage versus opposing OTs.

On the other hand, as a 34 OLB, his size is actually advantageous weighing nearly 270 lbs (and running a 4.53 40).

Now, I suppose you have to give Sintim the overall advantage in that even though he may not play well in space, and is basically a rush linebacker, in that he has proven himself versus elite competition as a rush linebacker.

That said, I don't see the gap between Sidbury and Sintim as 2 rounds. Specfically, Sintim going top of the 2nd and Sidbury going in the 4th round. In fact, Sidbury may even be more versatile than Sintim in the pros given Sidbury's size advantage.

Even though Sintim could go in the top of the 2nd, I think that Sidbury can go mid/late in the 2nd or very early 3rd round. I think drafting Sidbury in the 4th round would be a bargain.

Opinions?

I've watched both play on numerous occasions. Sidbury wrecked shop against JMU's O-line last year. Sintim is the more interesting prospect for me though. He's a natural looking football player, not just an athlete.

Where do you see fair value for Sidbury and Sintim in the Draft?

No disrespect from the player from Virginia, and Canty was a great pick for us, but Sidbury, all the way.

Bunting says Sintim is solid but doesn't have upside.

I think Lawrence Sidbury JR. is in play for pick 51. He has the measureables, upside, and athletic ability to be a really good pass rusher in the NFL. When he gets a little stronger, he will be tough to block in the NFL, because he's so quick and fast. I think this player does meet the "exceptional" rule, and Dallas would over look the fact that he played at Richmond.

This guys 10 yard split was at the top notch level. He should be able to play in space at OLB.

Bunting gives him to the Bears at 48 in his latest mock.

The thing I like about Sidbury is this:

Ware, Spencer, and Sidbury in the "Cowboys package"

The only thing I like about Sintim is that he's been playing in a 3-4 system at Virginia for 4 years now. Sidbury would have more of a learning curve, but that's not to say he can't do it.

I think Sidbury has better finesse moves and is a pass rush specialist, while Sintim still passes the rusher but better in run support.

I took Sidbury with #51 in my last mock. He will move up draft boards b/c his size/skill set is perfect for a 3-4 OLB and those players are highly coveted. I don't see him lasting past the early part of the 3rd round.

I've yet to hear anything negative written about him and it wouldn't surprise me if teams aren't talking much about him so as not to make his value go up even higher.

I like Sid but I think at the combine he weighed in at like 251 or 255 IIRC.

Sid the kid ran a 4.53!? That's faster than Malcolm Jenkins!

Yes, according to sportsline.com draft site.

The fastest 40 versus all the other DEs at the Combine.

Plus, he's strong. 28 reps on the bench.
