Oh, you don't have to convince me that Dallas sucks against the run. They're terrible. Sproles gashed them, too. And why Pittsburgh didn't give us more Bell is a mystery.
My guess is they wanted to exploit the Antonio Brown/Anthony Brown matchup and the rook ruined that party

No, the stats look decent for the Cowboys run defense.

Opponents Rushing:183 for 743 total yards rushing. That is 82.6 per game and a 4.06 average per rush.

Cowboys Rushing: 303 for 1449. That is 161 per game and 4.78 average per rush.

Excellent points. Had not thought of Wilson as a contingency there. And I think his relatively low snap totals are influenced in large part by teams trying to spread us out with 3 and 4 WR sets. We saw how our man Wilson can struggle in pass coverage (read the end of the Saints game last year). Lol.

Thx for the great insights. :)
That play in the Saints game was not really Wilson struggling in coverage. It was a team problem where he was rushed onto the field at the last second and had no chance to get situated.

If he has had any problem from what I've seen it has been with his run fits. He was out of position or filled the wrong gap a few times in his early snaps this season but seems to have corrected that problem.

I agree that situationally teams have gone away from the run even though sticking to it would seem to be a good strategy against us. I suppose game situations have perhaps dictated or maybe with our secondary getting more banged up that has

They need to draft an over-achieving thumper with average measurables in the 3rd or 4th round. Somebody's team captain who's a tackling machine. There's a couple of them every year out there. I'd try to find a stud DT or DE early and come back with the LB later.

The rush defense has been fine and actually improving. Not dominant by any means, but i would say above-average. They actually shut Bell down(rushing-wise) after a quick start in the first 2 drives.

As far as the LB position....it all depends on Jaylon. Assuming he's healthy next season, you're going to have 2 very talented instinctual 3-down run and chase LBs in Smith and Lee. That should be plenty given most teams play nickel 65%+ of the time now. Additionally you have Wilson who looks solid and improving. And Nzeocha who looks promising. But again, it all depends on Jaylon. If he's healthy before the draft, you put LB somewhat on the backburner, If we're still waiting in April for that nerve to fire, LB is in play very early in the draft.

Jaylon Smith is a freak of an athlete, if he gets back on the field to his normal self, we will have one of the top MLBs in the league, an one of if not the BEST LB corps in the NFL.

Always look to improve at every position every year and this offseason will be no different. It's hard to justify that our LB situation is worse than the island of misfit toys that compose our front four.
that's pretty harsh. actually our interior tackles are pretty good, and D Law, coming along nicely. A Stud MLB and edge rushers are needed- no doubt.
