We know all about Lee's Pro Bowl capabilities when healthy.

Smith has looked like an absolute stud during training camp and pre-season action and appears to be a rare talent.

LVE is athletic as LBs come and has a high ceiling.

Wilson is a quality back-up.

And Thomas has really impressed in pre-season action with his energy on the field.

My question is: who is the 6th LB?

I haven't heard much about Chris Covington-the 2018 6th round pick out of Indiana-during training camp, but I would assume he is the front runner since no one else is making noise.

Probably Covington, he was having a good camp up until getting sick.

Scout’s Notebook: Beasley’s Return; Heath’s Role

Rookie linebacker Chris Covington got some work with the first defense during practice. The staff really likes his ability to run and play in coverage. He missed a lot of practice time dealing with an illness but has been able to make up ground during the practices since his return. Covington has been lining up at SAM.

If you listen to Brian "I Was In The Room" Broaddus you would believe Covington is a poor man's Ray Lewis.

That's probably the single most reason I'm excited about this season, the LB's. We've been starving for them forever and finally have some. Joe Thomas could start tomorrow and we would be just fine. That's an awesome thing to have!

I'm not expecting much from LVE this season. I think they're grooming him to replace Lee in a year or two. That's why they've been having him call the plays and have given Smith the MLB role. And Thomas looks like he'll be able to fill Hitchens' shoes. We should be in good shape at LB.

March-Lillard.

Covington was injured for a while. He did get some snaps in the 2nd PS game.

They have often kept 7 so there is a chance Covington could make a late push for a spot but the odds seem low.

Wow that's good news right there...

One 2018 pre-draft analysis had him rated as the 5th best coverage LB in college football that past season.

If Thomas looks as good in the regular season as he has in preseason, I'll be happy. Makes me feel better about not keeping Hitchens.

Lee has got to absolutely stay healthy. No excuses. He matters a ton.

Smith is a damn gem. He needs to stay healthy.

JVE... We'll see if he develops and gets up to speed. Welcome to the NFL.

Lee, Smith, LVE (assume he gets healthy soon), Thomas, Wilson and Covington or March-Lillard is not a bad grouping. Good top end talent, solid backups.

Wilson will always be an enigma to me. Sometimes he looks great, sometimes it looks like he's never played LB before and just does stupid things on the field.

Lol, Wilson! What are you doing?

Wilson starts over LVE week 1 and beyond until there’s in game improvement when he gets subbed in occasionally. Wilson isn’t a bad Sam lb

That's how I was with Hitchens. I do think he is a better LB, but I was a fan of his hustle. He made some solid plays. And then there were a couple of others...Ahhh!
In pass protection vs. the Lions, when he didn't turn to the ball. We got lucky, but still....
