LB play is not good - they are slow. One weakness on D

I’m all for upgrading a position if you get the opportunity but the “lve is slow” narrative is just incorrect.

We’ve given up 10 points in 2 games. Clearly we are doomed. Tank time for a high draft pick next year!

Interesting that Clark played 43 snaps against the Giants, but only 17 against the Jets.

Something is going on there.

I’m just sitting here basking in the memories of when we just didn’t have any players at a position in years past, and now we have the luxury to complain that we don’t have an all pro at every spot on the field lol.

By all means let’s draft one, but we are fine with the talent we have. Let Clark develop. Overshown will be here next here.
Well said sir. The old adage about never being satisfied proven true again.

Lve changes direction as well as the RMS Titanic.I was hoping to see more of Bell.

Not sure what is "wrong" with the LBs we have. LVE is not a speedster but don't ask him to chase really fast QBs and he will be fine. He made some nice plays yesterday.

I think Clark has not shown what we thought he was last year. Overshown showed the speed to the ball more than any of them but he got hurt. I hope he comes back full speed unlike Cox.

This is linebacker play around the NFL lol. Except the 49ers. Go see the Eagles if you want to see linebacker play and what bad is.
I want lb play like them. Gonna need it against the Niners and eagles. Not sure how but needs be addressed. I need better lb play. I want a dog there will make d dangerously good. Missing piece. Maybe one tanking teams has lb can get later.

I'll be back to start a thread, once I find something I can try to complain about.

My God, brother. We are 2-0 and those 2 games were not close and people here are complaining. People here have said our offense needs to get it in gear. We scored 30 points against a pretty damn good defense? If we score 30 with the way our defense is playing the Miami Dolphins won't be cracking open Champayne this year.

The responsiblity of the linebackers is to limit plays by the running backs. The Defensive Line is primarily responsible to contain quarterbacks. Of course, the entire front 7 works as a team to contain both.

Running back totals from Games 1 & 2:
  • 27 carries for 85 total yards = 3.15 ypc (very good work by the linebackers.)
Rushing totals for QB's in Games 1 & 2:
  • 17 carries for 87 total yards = 5.18 ypc (respectable given QB scrambles typically for a higher ypc average since they are unplanned, and only occur when the QB sees an open field in front of him.)
Total rushing statistics for RB's and QB's combined:
  • 44 carries for 172 yards = 3.9 ypc
Conclusion: The linebackers aren't the issue. Even with the QB stats added, the defense is holding teams to under 4 ypc. Running backs are only averaging 42.5 ypg through two games. And these aren't just any RB's. They include top level RB's like Dalvin Cook, Breece Hall, and Saquon Barkley.
  • Leighton Vander Esch has good speed for a linebacker (4.65 in 40 yard dash)
  • Micah Parsons has extreme elite speed (4.39 in 40 yard dash)
  • Damone Clark has very good speed (4.57 in 40 yard dash)
  • DeMarvion Overshown has very good speed (4.56 40 yard dash)
  • Devin Harper has elite speed (4.50 40 yard dash)
  • Markquese Ball has extreme elite speed (4.41 40 yard dash)

Linebacker speed isn't an issue. The Cowboys slowest linebacker for the Cowboys has 4.65 speed, while the average NFL linebacker in runs a 4.71 40 yard dash. The OP has no idea what he is talking about, and has obviously not done any research whatsoever. All of the Cowboys linebackers have above average speed, and half of them have elite speed.

Eye test. Lb play ain’t good. Why Quinn forced play safeties at lb. Get a dawg lb in here. One with speed and violence.

They are doing fine. We were giving up short passes yesterday that could have been covered better. But it’s only the second game. We will improve..
