I'm surprised he got cut before having a chance to really show himself in preseason, but I guess you had to figure that at 11 wide receivers, and with the injuries we've had on defense, something had to give. I wouldn't be surprised if he has asked back in a week or two once some players come back.

What does surprise me is that he was considered the 11th guy. I'm surprised to see Tim Benford still on the roster, and I also hope that this at least means that Dwayne Harris' injury wasn't significant.

My guess was that at least early on Dezmon Briscoe would have an advantage over most of the other receivers on the roster, with his 4 years NFL experience, but my guess is that as camp wages on, that that advantage will wane as it has for him in the past. Although there is the possibility that being here in Dallas will do for his career what Laurent Robinson was able to do. He did have some success while in Tampa a couple years ago. That isn't an easy place to succeed.

I think Devin Street is the heavy favorite for 5th receiver, making most of training camp about whether or not we keep 6th and/or who makes it to the practice squad:

This is mainly a competition between Newsome, Byrd, and Boyd, but maybe I'm overlooking Benford here, but my guess is Benford like many receivers that stuck around a while at the bottom of the charts will ultimately pack his bags when cuts come.

I want to say that Boyd is probably the more likely given his age, upside, and cost.

Lots of stiff competition at the WR position right now in camp. Word is out that LaRon Byrd is making a very good impression thus far in camp by getting open regularly and catching everything sent his way. Of course, he'll have to maintain it to be retained before the Turk comes calling in the weeks ahead. It's early yet, so there's a good way to go before anything is decided.

Gotta feel somewhat disappointed for Washington, although I'll admit after seeing his pic upon his arrival in camp, he looked as though had hadn't seen a decent meal in a very long time. The guy really looked like a bag of bones, so i'm not too surprised.

Quite frankly, I'm torn about the 5th/6th WR conundrum. I really like the potential of Briscoe and Boyd, but a WR corps of Dez-Williams-Beasley-Harris-Street is pretty darn good, to the point where I think they could use the extra slot at a different position.

That's the crux of the problem we have. Whoever can we the competition at 6th receiver, still has to beat out and cleanly a position that needs more bodies. And that 6th receiver... isn't going to play much, if at all the entire season.... They'll never be active, so it's difficult to put resources towards somebody like that. Even Street won't be active much if ever.

Washington just came to the wrong team; now if he had gone to Carolina he might be pushing for a starting position by now.

The knock on Washington was his route running and his ability to get off press. A year in the weight room and a good offseason could correct many of those issues, which is why I wonder if they didn't let him go early with the intent to bring him back on the practice squad so other teams didn't get an opportunity to see him compete come preseason.

I thought I read that he has an injury issue? Is that not accurate?

There's a report that his shoulder is going to keep him out for the rest of the preseason so there is no real reason to keep him on the roster at this point. If I was Jerry, I would pay him his bonus and tell him to stay in town to go on the practice squad or wish him luck in his future endeavors. I'm still rooting for this kid. I really like his story.

I don't think that actually happens in real life. It's just the go-to interpretation anytime someone's pet cat gets let go before preseason.

if he is still on the street i think they could bring him back to PS. if he gets signed then the best of luck to him. but if he is not able to compete in camp then it was the right move. he will get on somebodies ps for sure. to much size and speed for someone not to try and develope him

They picked him to cut because he is injured and can't practice. They could add him back to the roster on IR after he clears waivers. I'm not certain if they have to pay him the rookie minimum if he were on IR or if they can pay him the Practice Squad IR rate. They did have a guy last year on the PS that got injured and he was put on Practice Squad IR. The difference is about 100K for PS vs almost 500K for the rookie minimum.

This is not true at all.

He was practicing, and as a matter of fact you can see him in the WR vs DB drills in training camp live here: http://www.dallascowboys.com/multim...-Injured/009450f3-eb23-4479-a196-5b284c57a8b1

He is battling with the shoulder injury but he was still practicing with it.
