The lead draw was the best thing we had going this year. The only problem is that Marion The Civilized ran it occasionally.

you guys have a short memory, this play worked well on occasion, but in key situations it failed miserably. Especially when barber was running it.

We needed the lead draw initially to take some of the steam out of the passrush giving our Tackles a chance against speed rushers.

Secondly, we just run much more effectively out of this setup because it holds the LBs a split second as they are caught between coming up for the run or dropping back into the passing lanes. This let's our OL get on the second level which they are too slow to do otherwise.

Thirdly, Romo is just so great with his head and shoulder fakes and footwork that he can pull it off like no other QB in the league. We can run a straight draw. We can fake a draw and then throw a pass. We can fake a draw, then fake a pass and then run a draw. We can fake a slant and then run a draw. The key is the defense can't figure out quickly what is happening because the OL do almost the same thing everytime right off the bat and they can't key on what Romo is faking and what the intent of the play is.

Minnesota countered this by playing very aggressively but if our OL held up a bit better there should have been lots of openings in their secondary as a result.

The team won 11 regular season games and 1 playoff game. In order to win those games the lead draw had to work in many a key situation. You don't luck into gaining over 2000 yards on the ground. Sure there were times it failed. That happens with every play. There were times when Barber failed when he wasn't running the lead draw, too. It is a good play and not the only play they ran. It would be stupid to get rid of it.

And it is not as if Garrett did not realize its limitations. He ran outside or at least tried to run the ball outside quite a bit on the Vikings from the get go. He knew their strength was up the middle and tried to work around that. It was not the lead draw that lost that game. It was not the lead draw that lost the games to the Giants or any loss this season. The lead draw worked way more than the times it failed.

Can someone tell Jason Garrett that this isn't the 90s, Marion Barber isn't Emmitt Smith, and we don't have the offensive line we did from the 90s.

You've got to be kidding me. It's one of our best plays, and you want Garrett to scrap it?

Unless, my sarcasm meter isn't working today:confused:

I didnt say we had to get rid of it, it simply shouldnt be a primary means of attack, at least not with barber there.

The draw is a great play when used sporadically. The problem this year was that it was so effective against the Eagles, Red Jesus thought it could be a legitimate focal point to the offense. Against powerful DT's it obviously didn't work. And against a defense that is getting pressure without blitzing, it's easy to stop.

Actually it's success against Philly might have hurt our chances against Minnesota just because of that. It's an easy play to stop with those DTs (even though they should have been suspended anyways :banghead:)

It was used sporadically against the Vikings. They ran to the outside a bunch that game.

It was used sporadically because it wasn't really working. If memory serves correct, they tried it like 7 or 8 times, which I think is a lot for one play. And he had to go away from it because it was getting stuffed. There were a couple of third and shorts where the whole world knew it was coming and it just went nowhere if I'm not mistaken.

Garret wanted to make it the focal point is all I meant. He obviously wasn't succesful.
