NFL owners have approved a rule change allowing the league to step in and assist on potential disqualifications, whether for flagrant football acts or non-football acts, and initiate a flag if one wasn’t thrown.

Situations like DK Metcalf’s incident last year, where no flag meant no ejection, can now be addressed in real time.

By Competition Committee; to permit the kicking team to declare an onside kick at any time during the game.

By Competition Committee; to eliminate the kicking team’s incentive to intentionally kick the ball out of bounds when kicking off from the 50-yard line.

By Competition Committee; to modify the kickoff alignment requirements for the receiving team players in the setup zone.

By Competition Committee; for one year only, to allow the NFL Officiating Department to correct clear and obvious misses made by on-field officials that impact the game, in the event that there is a work stoppage involving the game officials represented by the NFL Referees Association.

They should just ask Aubrey how he feels about all of this lol

I think these are good changes. I'm surprised to see them tweaking the new kick-off set up yearly. That will likely go on for awhile as it is a big change to the game. I will always hope they go back to the old way, with the wedge and all that...but that's not likely to ever happen.

Well, now I'm kind of hoping for a work stoppage so we can see how it would look with the officiating department correcting clear and obvious on-field misses that impact the game.

So they cant overule a disqualification? Right?

Does somebody know the exact new rule?

The whole BS rule about only doing it twice and only in the fourth quarter and all that was too stupid for words.
I don;t see the part about having to warn the other team about it has been removed; that is just as bad

Remote snitching isn’t needed in the NFL.

If it’s flagged, it’s flagged. If not then move on. Most of this stuff is often times the 2nd guy to act getting caught regardless of what happened.

If you’re trying to resolve the DK issue, then limit the scope to that aspect. Don’t just give free rein to review everything because it’s gonna end up in a DQ that isn’t justified.

or more likely get a guy thrown out that thought he got away with something which is fine with me

...that means they'll be able to spit on Dak, two times. :)

I had no issue with DK's response to that ignorant fan. I only wish he could have got a headbutt in as well for good measure.

Bad idea.

Some league executive is going to sit in judgement over the officiating crew?

What assurances do we have that he won't carry out some retaliatory agenda?

Officials should have final say for better or for worse. Keep anybody not involved in the game out of the game.

Some here say that current refs already do that so what's the difference?
