For those of you who are confused regarding what a "slap on the wrist" is, the following are 2 good examples of what a "slap on the wrist" really is:

Falcons lose a 5th round draft pick and get fined $250k for cheating

Browns are fines $250k and the GM get suspended 4 games for cheating

Neither team made national headlines.

Since the Pats did make national headlines they should receive a harsher punishment.

The funny thing is that you don't think the Pats should be punished as harshly as these two teams just were or not punished at all.

How do you suspend a GM? If you honestly think he will not be pulling the strings during those 4 weeks, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn you may be interested in buying.

Like I said.... for those of you who have no clue what a "slap on the wrist" entails, these 2 punishments are slaps on the wrist.

Nice try with the trolling. But remember, Belichick was fined and then the Patriots announced a new deal for an undisclosed amount 2 weeks after the fine aka, the Pats just bumped up his pay so in effect Kraft paid his fine for him.

No suspension or anything.

I do think the Falcons got a slap on the wrist. Of course, neither texting somebody on the sideline or pumping in crowd noise is 1/10th as bad as dressing people up as innocent cameramen and having them sneak on the other team's sidelines and videotape their signals...with audio or deflating footballs.

In essence, the Patriots helped created this type of environment and the league did nothing to put an end to it because in most organizations minds, if all you're going to get is a slap on the wrist set by the precedent on the Patriots, why not cheat? You may get away with it and if not, no biggie.

Goodell and the league really brought this upon themselves.

That's because there's no evidence that they did anything wrong.

If I'm just trolling, but you respond anyway, what does that say about you?

I know you're not one to worry about silly little things like facts, but facts are they lost a first round pick and the team was fined $1 million.

If losing a 1st round pick is a "slap on the wrist" then what's a 5th round pick? A wet noodle?

The fact that you have to lie about what happened hurts, not helps, your thesis.

It says I'm being bothered by you.

$1 million is pocket change for Kraft. A first round pick when you already have 2 first round picks is a slap on the wrist. Particularly given the crime.

I said that the Falcons got a slap on the wrist. The Browns GM has been suspended for 4 game. Big difference.

The fact that you have to lie about what happened hurts, not helps, your thesis.

Again, there you go trolling. Belichick was given a new contract 2 weeks after the penalty came out for an 'undisclosed amount' which reading between the lines means Robert Kraft paid off the fine.

And the Patriots did dress up their camera guys in disguise and snuck them onto the other team's sidelines and filmed their signals. The Pats also lied throughout the process. They *originally* claimed they did *not* film anything. When they got caught they said they only did it for that season, then they didn't know the rule and that they only did it on offense and that Belichick 'couldn't pick Matt Walsh out of a lineup' despite standing right next to him in 3 different team photos.

Nobody has to lie about anything when it comes to the Patriots because they will do more than enough lying for everybody. And the fact that you support it says a lot about your character.

Gimme a break. The fact that they had 2 first rounders is 100% irrelevant. They got a 1st round pick taken away from them and to this day they remain the only team that has had that penalty levied against them.

More ignorance on display.

Little child, it's a football game. Relax. Stop taking yourself so seriously.

The Patriots were fined $250K. Bill Belicheck was fined $500K. Those don't add up to $1 million.

Of course I wasn't being serious. Only a blind Patriots homer would think otherwise.
The level of idiocy seen from those who are obsessively jealous of another team's success gets ridiculously high in the forum. For example, we have people in here saying the loss of a 1st round pick is a "slap on the wrist'. So it isn't always easy to tell when someone is pretending to say stupid things or is actually saying stupid things. Hence the meme I posted.

I am not jealous of Pats at all. My team ended their perfect season and won Superbowl and did it again 4 years later. In our last 3 official game against Pats, we defeated them twice in the Superbowl and also defeated them in Foxboro in 2011. So I got nothing to be jealous of them. In fact, up until last ball deflating scandal, they were my team in AFC. But I believe they deserve to be punished harder than both Falcons and Browns.

Miami had their 1st round pick taken away from them for tampering when they hired Don Shula away from the Colts. Not only did they lose the pick, that pick was awarded to the Colts.

Will they once again be your team in the AFC if the Wells Report shows there is absolutely no evidence of ball tampering on their part? Or do you believe they're guilty until proven innocent and even then they're still guilty?

I stand corrected.

Of course, the fact that you have to go back 45 years to find another example really helps prove the point that such punishment is rare indeed.

The Saints would have lost their 1st rounder to bounty gate, but that pick had already been traded(to the Pats) before the punishments were handed out. Instead they lost their 2nd round pick for two consecutive seasons.

But they didn't. So we have 2 examples: The one you provided involving Shula and the one for the Patriots.

They didn't because they couldn't. The pick wasn't there to take away. Anyway, you scream facts, but you get facts wrong. The Pats aren't the only ones who lost a 1st round pick and they weren't fined $1 million. They were fined $250K.

Yes they will be my team in AFC if the investigation shows they are innocent.

What are you talking about? There's always future 1st rounders that they could have taken. Atlanta, for example, lost a 5th rounder from next year's draft. There is no reason why they couldn't have taken a 1st rounder from the next season from the Saints.
Anyway, you scream facts, but you get facts wrong. The Pats aren't the only ones who lost a 1st round pick and they weren't fined $1 million. They were fined $250K.
The posters up above are saying the Patriots gave Belichick a bonus to cover the amount he was fined, so I am just rolling it all up into one big fine for the team and that makes the number $750,000. No matter how you slice it, the league was paid $750,000. I am going along with the people who say the Patriots reimbursed Belichick and just calling it one big team fine.

It should be noted that if you do want to call it a separate fine for Belichick, then it is one of the highest fines of all time given to an individual employed by an NFL team (i.e. not including owners or team fines).
