If you noticed the play of backup center Cory Proctor last night, then you should be thinking the same thing.

Is Bentley still available?

I agree that Procter looked bad and appears unable to anchor in the middle, but Bentley's been out there for a while with no takers despite some teams' being desperate at that position.

That could work in our favor can't he play Center and Guard if so we can bump Procter and Have him slide to Center if Gurode gets hurt and have him start at LG > KOiser.

the kid from texas tech isn't on the practice squat anymore?

If I'm the Cowboys, I would seriously be carefully checking the waiver wire for any OG/C who can seriously help us backing up Gurode & also more help at OG in addition to Berger. Same goes for OT cause this is McQuistan's 4th season; does anybody really feel this kid is either a good backup or even close to becoming a starting OT in the NFL.

I'm also carefully paying attention to which vet QBs or young promising kids become available. Understand Simms looked good last night but Bucs want a 3rd or 4th rounder for him.

I'm pretty sure they would be looking the Bucs have about 6 QB's on their roster so someone is gone

Wow, I've been busy, but did I miss the entire 2008 season?

We have only been graced by his uglinesses presence for 2 years. This is his 3rd.

Is there any rhyme or reason why Bentley is still available? Is he damaged goods? If it's all about money, then surely he has very little leverage because he is still out there.

He's got to be damaged goods to be out there this long. Charles Spencer appears to be also.

The fact that it appears no one is interested in Bentley would seem to indicate that either he needs another year of rehab or he is done.

Now if we could get him reasonably cheap and the doctors thought he could make it back, I would like to give him a shot like we did with Colombo.
Not likely with his background, but I would at least ask.

Got this off a steelers site about LeCharles.

LeCharles Bentley rumor still gaining momentum

The rumors are flying about former pro bowl center LeCharles Bentley. Several sources have St. Louis, New England, San Francisco and Chicago in the hunt to sign the injured lineman to a league-minimum salary. This week, the Steelers re-signed center Doug Legursky which seemingly ended the rumors flying around that the Pittsburgh Steelers were not only in the hunt for Bentley, but leading the charge. Of course, since the Legursky signing, the Bentley rumors continued to heat up. Kudos go to my writing teammate Mike Frazer, who noted this possibility a few days ago.

How do I feel about Bentley? His talent was unquestioned when the Browns signed him in 2006. The former Ohio State Buckeye All-American was coming off his second All Pro season, and many felt he was the best center in the game. He tore his patellar tendon early in camp that year, and has been out since with a set of injuries that dominoed from that first one. Four surgeries later (two for the tear, and two for a subsequent staph infection that nearly caused doctors to amputate the leg), Bentley is attempting a comeback. Strangely enough, the Browns cut Bentley the week he passed his physical. He’s been a free agent ever since.
It’s hard to imagine that Bentley can return to the pro bowl form. Not only has he not played in two complete seasons, but the injuries to his leg more than likely sapped his strength and movement. Most felt that Bentley wouldn’t even have a leg, let alone walk again. Now he’s trying to come back and play. It’s easy to fall into the ‘feel good,’ Bentley comes back to dominate stories that would surely heat up if he did sign. I have to be a lot more realistic however.
I’d love for the stories to be true. I’d love the Steelers to sign the guy, have him win the job, and become a pro bowler again. It would be a fantastic story, magnified by the fact that the Browns cut him. The reality is that Bentley will likely never be the same, and even more likely that he’s never really an NFL factor again. Seriously, if teams thought Bentley could play, he’d be with a team right now. Every day that passes in camp, hurts him long term for the season. He may be waiting for an injury or a team to lack solid line play (as he would be doing with the Steelers), but at the end of the day, you really have to think that his agent can’t find a sure-fire team for a reason. Too many teams need good linemen, and centers. There’s something going on that we don’t know about.

Bentley's knees are worse than advertised. Sad as he was dominant with NO.

Frankly, I'd still like to see the Cowboys take a look at Bentley. Colombo was in the same boat as Bentley (Colombo suffered real serious knee injury in 2002) when Parcells took a flyer on him in late November 2005. We all know that when TC opened in 2006, Colombo went on to win starting RT job. Heck, Bentley might still be better then Proctor.

Agreed.
