There will be endless threads on Dak before and after he signs but I want to focus on what really needs to be done for in my opinion will make this a championship caliber team that should compete for the NFC championship and Super Bowl.

They still need to add to the roster in a couple of areas unless they already believe they have the guys they want, my take is they can get better.

First, get Dak signed for whatever they both agree on in a compromise and then the fans enjoy endless threads about if he is worthy, is it to much, so it be a longer contract, etc., etc. Only thing I will say is whatever Dak signs for will most likely be $10 million less or more a year than Mahomes, Watson, and Jackson. No Dak isn't Mahomes but for me (not anyone else), he is on the same tier with Watson and Jackson and definitely better than Goff and Wentz.

Second, still would like to see them upgrade the safety position. I do believe Hooker and Adams are better than what we currently have with Hooker as a FS and Adams as a SS. Wouldn't mind them trading for one or both and am sure Hooker would come at a far more reasonable price. Maybe Woods for Hooker since both are on the last year of their deals since Indy has soured on Hooker. Adams is going to be a complicated deal since he wants and extension now so any trade would have to have him agree to a new contract. Would be an absolute dream to get both but highly unlikely probably for either one.

Third, like what we have in the TE area but if we somehow could get O.J. Howard for a late round pick or something to that effect then I believe with the change of scenery he becomes the guy many thought he would be out of college. I know many like the UDFA guys we signed but there is a reason those guys are UDFA and normally you see one or two maybe three make a team.

Fourth, defensive end is really a quandary for me. I understand wanting to sign someone like Griffen to make a good defensive but have to believe that Jerry and Stephen believe that Smith and Gregory are going to get reinstated. I do like a couple of the UDFA but they are UDFA and just not sure if they will be ready this season. Someone on a one year deal like Quinn was would be okay with me although considering McCarthy and Nolan are the ones that bought in Smith, it just seems unlikely that we sign one.

Fifth, UDFAs and Dalton seem to be the hot topic as UDFAs are every year. Pet cats and watching tape on those guys make us think they are going to be great and we know it is a longshot at best. Dalton was a smart move. He is a capable QB and a great backup option. Look from his point of view and his wife's point of view. He is playing for McCarthy who everyone knows does wonders for the QBs. A year under McCarthy could bring him a huge contract next year on a multi year deal with another team, something like Bridgewater did. Also, there is a good chance that he only gets $3 million from the Cowboys because the other $4 million is incentives tied to playing time, wins, and post season play. As to UDFAs, IMO and only mine, I think the only guys with a realistic chance to make the 55 are:
Ron'Dell Carter DE - he seems like a guy that could play behind Lawrence and learn
Sean McKeon TE - if we keep 4 TE then could see him as one
Luther Kirk S - if he makes it then either Thompson or Wilson are gone
Aaron Parker WR - means they will move on with Johnson, Wilson and/or Brown
Seno Olonilua FB - would be simply a $ deal in place of Olawale
Francis Bernard LB - good instincts and could replace March

Frankly Carter would be the best bet and the others to the PS along with Steele and Dowdle and Kamara. Remember we keep 12 on the PS this year and that is normally where we find our UDFA guys. Just my thoughts.

They just need to get on the practice field and see how things shake out in terms of how players fit with the new schemes/coaches.

Teams rarely go to the Super Bowl in the 1st year with a new HC but many have done it in the 2nd year. No need to go all-in trading for a Safety.

Can't trade for hooker, Adams and Howard. We would not have enough draft picks to trade up to get Lawrence to replace Dak if he doesn't sign.

Anyway, can't trade fro all of them. And really do not want to trade for Adams, price is too high, plus he wants paid. No more than a 3rd, since we should get a 3rd round comp pick. Howard seems injury prone, but would not mind him at all. But at what price, a 6th round? Hooker, same, what would it take, but he too is at the end of his rookie deal, what will he want as a 2nd contract. Id Howard in the same situation as well.

Just giving up draft picks for possibly one year rentals and then high cap hits after, if they pan out. Doesn't seem to be a good idea. Unless you are sure you will get to where you want to be.

McCarthy flat-out said he doesn't care about the distinction between FS and SS, which means he needs safeties who can cover. That would basically take us out of the running for Adams, at his cost. Hooker could make some sense, but he's pretty redundant with HaHa.

In terms of keeping 4 TEs, I'd think that McKeon would be in competition with Olawale as much as Schultz. I can't imagine they keep 4 TEs and Olawale.

I would sign Clowney for a short-term, high AAV deal regardless of whether or not Smith and Gregory are going to play. It's too risky to go into the season depending on guys who haven't played.

Yeah, that would be ideal. But I think Clowney is in the same boat with Cam. I think both want a more lucrative long term deal. I don't think either of them will be getting one this year.
