Mike McCarthy and Bruce Arians both come from Schottenheimer tree
Alzheimers is a horrible disease that I hope science keeps working on and finds cure for

    always one of my favorites.
    so sad to hear.
i remember a rumor that had Coach Landry not been fired...Marty Schottenheimer was someone he'd have been interested in as an asst coach and eventual successor.

While I agree with this, if that were me, I'd want to go as soon as possible. I don't want to waste my family's time when I am just a shell.

Hate to hear that. He got a raw deal in SD I think he had them headed in right direction would of been interesting to see what they could of done next few years.

Nothing against Tom Flores, but Schottenheimer was a much more consistent coach and should be in the HOF.

Reminds me of coaches like Bud Grant, Chuck Knox, and Marv Levy. Just solid, great coaches.

His players loved him. He never got over the hump, but he is still a great leader of men. Sad day.

RIP....I have to say I was happy when he was fired in Washington after one season because he was building a smash mouth football team and philosophy there.

Wow!!! Great Coach! Those Browns teams that lost to Elway or the Chiefs teams he had were tough, well coached and hard to beat. R.I.P. Coach

Very sad news. My aunt was a photographer for the Chiefs in the 90's and I had the pleasure of meeting him and having dinner at his home. Heck of a guy, very fun talking football with him as a kid.
