The reason I said 23 is because it was put up on the screen during a 1977 Cowboys game. I think it was around halftime of the 2nd to last week of the season. I'll check it again.

Go to the 16:42 mark in that video. It reads, Harvey Martin (1977), Leads the NFL with 23 QB sacks.

I don't know how many he ended up with. Still had an entire half to play in that game, and another game against Denver to play.

Thats interesting to note, on a broadcast no less... if you read the blog on the PFR page about how their numbers were derived, it seems like a pretty through accounting... and since sacks weren't actually an official stat back then, i like to see how the ABC stats crew came up with their number...

Unfortunately the league did not track that stuff and keep the defensive stats for the record and fact book... missing a big chunk of nfl history right there...

Yeah, that's why I brought up 23 sacks. If I can find the game against denver, I'll watch it to see if he got any more sacks.
