Legitimate Criticism on Romo

My one pet peeve about Romo is he doesn't run when he has a clear opening. Instead of that difficult sideline throw to TWill in double coverage, he could have simply run for like 8 and slid. I wonder why this isn't ever mentioned by anyone in the clown circus of Valley Ranch or media. I mean for all this whining about audibles and forcing passes allegedly, why has nobody brought up this dumb idea of being Brady in the pocket?

Agreed. He's no speed demon, but there are times where he needs to take off and run.

I agree, to an extent. I think it's not talked about much because, generally, coaches much prefer a QB play with his head up and throw it rather than run it whenever he can. But Tony took some shots today--like that 3rd and 4 to Williams where he made the beautiful catch--where it would have been smarter and safer to run the ball. It also gives the coverage teams a little something else to worry about.

Russell Wilson broke off another great example of this against the Cards today. I like Tony looking downfield (the 51 harder to Williams at the end of the game is a perfect example of this), but there's a time for a QB to scramble, too.

I mean this week, commentators made a point about how Murray needs the ball. Yet, not in four plus years have we heard about Romo moving outside the pocket as a schematic thing or Romo running for yardage instead of forcing the pass.

I notied that quite a bit too.
Actually this was brought up on The Fan after the game. Also was speculating what I been thinking all year, is it because he doesn't want / need to take a big hit.
I been telling my friend all year he doesn't look right, something is off. Underthrows a lot off passes lately. The speculation was, was there really anything more to his off season back "procedure".

He's never been known to run for 1st downs.

I felt like he could have run for that first down as well, but overall, the guy was clutch coming down the stretch. I wish we would not put ourselves in that position. We can do that by separating from them scoring wise through out the game. But again, he was clutch coming down the stretch and made up for his ridiculous int earlier. Now go out and beat Philly, then prepare to carry this defense in the play offs. That's not too much to ask from a guy making over 100 mil.

This is a decent criticism. I remember him having some pretty nice runs in his early years (remember that one on the fumble against the Rams?). For as mobile as he is, it would be nice to see him pick up some yardage here and there.

That run was largely because of his elusiveness. Not so much speed.

He rarely runs even when there's a lot of green in from of him.

A couple times I was watching (not today game) wanted him to run but he made a pass that went for a much bigger gain so IMO its a wash there that he could get some yards running at times but that might negate bigger plays so I'm ok with that.

Romo can run with the best of the tub of lards like Big Ben.. It would keep the DCs off guard a little..

Right, I didn't say it was speed. But the guy can move decent enough, and he often finds himself with grass in front of him.

Hey, I agree he needs to run it more. That just obviously isn't his style. He seems to rather wait for a pass play which he's much better at than running.

Eli throws another pick.
I'm sorry, continue the Romo dissection.

I think Tony makes a lot more plays letting the receivers work themselves open than he ever would running the ball. Probably best for him to stick with what he does best.
