Leighton Vander Esch

Where were the tackles? I don't recall exactly, but sometimes that is misleading. 7 tackles 12 yards downfield is different than 7 at or behind the LOS. Not a criticism, just a question.

Well, in this defense a LB is supposed to tackle downfield if he is not blitzing. Maybe 12 yards downfield is not ideal, you want it with 5 yards of the LOS. But I did not recall to many 12 yard gains by the Giants. Unless from a few pass plays, and a few missed tackles.

Did he miss any tackles? Seemed like he got the ball carrier to the ground every time but I could be wrong
great observation. I noticed that as well. He is a sure tackler. I think we will need him in this Seattle game. Lee is already banged up with his hammy lol...what a shocker.:muttley:

He was in at the end of the 2nd quarter and near the end of the game when they were playing prevent. He was where he was supposed to be and made all the tackles he had a chance to make. I get your point and it will be valid when he gets more time in the base defense and should be making tackles closer to the line of scrimmage.

They avg about 2 yds a carry so don’t think many runs were down the field
My guess would be most of his tackles were on passes so most would be down the field

Bingo.

He was in the game when we trying to:
1: keep them in bounds and
2: Prevent any big gains.

This, especially considering he was in coverage so much.

It's a safe assumption that where ever the #55 lays the latch of lockdown on,,,,forward travel is Kaput,,,,I'd pointed out on several prior occasions, His sure handed tackling abilities are something WE'VE DESPERATELY LACKED FOR YEARS.

YA,I think he'd wiffed on one, along his lefthanded sideline, as he'd ended up rolling outta' bounds while in closing pursuit but the Calvary was right there at full charge.

He was always going to be exceptional in space and most of the situations he was in he was in space.

So excited about this player.

Leighton Vander Esch is not surprising me, would love to see him start forcing some turn-overs.

Thing I see with him is at his build he has the ability to add a lot more upper body strength. I think he can have a good season this year but his best years will be ahead of him
