Leonard Davis is no Tackle; I live in Phoenix

In Arizona, he was their best OL so they forced him to play left tackle.

Right there. LD was probably drafted too high, but AZ projected him to be a tackle instead of a guard. And like some teams they would rather have there best guy out there as opposed to some guy that is OK but is a natural in the position. Remember Dallas did that a lot thru the late 90's and even thought about doing it with LA before he left town.

I live in Phoenix so I have seen Davis play on a weekly basis and I can tell you that he is exactly like Larry Allen during his latter years. I have to laugh when I hear fans say he is quick or agile. He was one the reasons the Cardinals offensive line was so bad last year because Davis would get killed by edge rushers. He has amazing skills but the dude is just big and was playing out of position. He is one of the best guards in the NFL. He is an All-Pro at guard but he is awful at tackle. If Davis gets his hands on a defender, that defender is done. Like Larry Allen, Davis' hands are impressive and he is not going to get beaten by any defender that tries to put moves on him. The problem is he is too slow to play either tackle position. If we could start Davis at guard, he would just make our running game dominant. But he was awful at Left Tackle and proved he was too slow to handle quick defensive ends.

He'll play Guard and he will maul.

We tried Larry Allen at tackle and it didn't work then either. Leonard Davis played tackle at Texas but that was when Texas and the rest of the Big 12 was pretty much a run dominant conference. Bob Stoops, Mike Leach and Mac Brown didn't really make their presence felt until the early part of the decade. So Davis wasn't asked to pass protect at UT which changed when he went to the NFL and realized he was too big to play tackle.

We are still going to need a quality right tackle

Well, I am the Dread Pirate Roberts, and I say Davis IS a tackle.

Good work, sleep well, I'll most likely kill you in the morning.

Actually LA made the Pro Bowl playing tackle. Now he was not GREAT there but that was back when he could move and he did very well.

its funny how some cowboy fans say LA couldnt get to the second level or pull on sweeps... now they r stuck defending a guy with less skill set and passion to be a Dallas Cowboy!

I see Davis playing LG.... Jerry knows it was a mistake to listen to let LA go, now he has to pay 16 million in bonuses because BP couldnt build an OL!!!

LA NOW is not as mobile as Davis. The LA of 2000 was - probably more so.
I watched a couple of 49r games late last season. LA looked worse then when he was with us. He can still destroy anyone he gets his hands on, but his ability to move quick is gone.
