Let’s Rebuild, but Not Totally. You Call the Moves

We lost an another division playoff game to the Niners.

We have an aging QB and RB with large contacts who don’t appear to be getting better.

We have a stud at WR1 and a stud at outside linebacker.

The defensive unit as a whole played pretty good this year.

The offensive line as a whole is in pretty good condition for next year.

We have a good punter, but the kicker is so questionable that his incompetence showed in the divisional playoff game, even without him being on the field.

If you are the GM, what would be your sequence of moves?

Off-season for me is:

Attempt to retain Quinn
Move on from KM
Keep Fassel plz

Zeke pay cut or post June 1st cut.
Let Schultz and McGovern walk unless they're brought back very cheap.

Tag pollard if he's unwilling to sign a decent 2-3 year deal
Restructure Dak
Sign LVE back if you can get it at a fair price.
Sign one of Da'Ron Payne (top target) or Marcus Peters (only 2 year deal if we do)
Trade a 3 or 2 if necessary for Dhop
Go after Gesecki as well depending on who you get/how much else you spend

Draft: Lukas Van Ness, Siaki Ika, Joey Porter Jr, Devon Whitherspoon or Cam Smith (last 3 are corners) in the first. Target either oline, secondary, WR, Dline and LB basically with your first picks unless somebody extraordinary falls (Bijan, Addison, Quentin Johnston etc)

If we're rolling with Dak we might as well give him a real shot. Id mortgage 2024 picks if other decent players become available in the off-season or to get some more guys in this year's draft late 1.

Every fan can try to come up with every solution possible that will make the Jones family not overrate their own players and it ain’t gonna work.

Just a matter of how long we decide we are going to buy into the act.

#1 Trade Prescott or bench him, not many other options.

#2 Keep the defense as best you can.
No team is going to trade for $40 million dollar a year QB who throws into double coverage and loses. Trading him is not an option. Do you bench a QB who eats up 20% of your salary cap? Idk. I can’t remember that being done.

This. Plus, the dead money cap hit even if you could trade him is staggering and prohibitive for the next year or two.

Get rid of LVE, DaK, Zeke, diggs, McCarthy, Gallup (worthless), and sign competent linebackers, 1 techs, cornerback.

Yup agreed. 4 was the reason we lost today, but look at how adding AJ Brown affected Hurts this year. Realistically our best shot is to get Dak another weapon or two and get the offense less tight window throws and more easy reads.

Contract/draft capital wise we don’t have the ability to replace Dak. Have to try to make it work in the next year or two and at that point you can move on if it doesn’t.

Far fetched idea, but as fed up as I am right now...

I'm tanking next year to be able to draft Caleb Williams next draft. Fed up with trying to win championships with undrafted or 4th round QBs. You win with 1st round QBs. Convince Payton to wait 1 more year and then fire McCarthy and hire Payton.

Ok...insane idea but I'm out of ideas. I need a drink.

Let Zeke walk

Zeke is on the books in 2022 for $18 million. There is no realistic way to say goodbye to that … until spring 2023, at which time Dallas could (pre-June 1) absorb a $6 million dead-money hit or (post-June 1) walk away with no financial penalty,” Fisher wrote on January 24.

I see no reason to bring Zeke back next year, even if he were to accept a pay cut. His speed is gone, he can't break tackles, and it's not like he scored TD's this year because of his skills. He just walked in behind the O-line. That money can best be spent elsewhere.

If cutting him actually saved you cap I’d agree. We save more cap getting him to take a paycut than any other option. Only really spread out the hit by cutting post June 1st, but at this point I’m willing to do that if he won’t take the pay cut.

Letting Pollard go is OK because he will demand a lot more than Dallas should pay.

Is Pollard good? YES.

But we can't get too high on a RB. Quality RBs are available in the draft every year in the middle-rounds (cheap).

I'd hate to see him go, but I'd rather they put money into a Center, WR, DBs b/c Donovan Wilson is gone too.

1) force a split between Dak & Moore. Hire Greg Roman as OC.

2) Attempt to acquire Trey Lance from SF and move on from Rush as backup.

3) Give Dak one more season to win big. If not part ways and install Trey Lance or a high draft pick as the guy.

Let's say they cut Zeke take a 6 mil cap hit than draft a RB in the first 4 rounds on a rookie deal your out 10 mil which includes Zekes hit and Rookie RB contract they are fine there. Now you have RB in a 4 year cost affective deal and after that 6 mil dead cap hit on Zeke your done with Zeke.

The only thing now do you want Pollard back because he has a broken fibula so will he be the same or do you let him walk and get a comp pick ?

This team is already a contender and its young on defense. WE just need to add a few key pieces. The window is the next few years.

-Get rid of Zeke
-resign Pollard, Shultz
-Get out of Gallup contract if you can
-dump Tyron Smith

You can't trade Dak unless Dak agrees to it thanks to our brilliant leadership accepting a "no trade clause." Sooo, Draft a QB in the first, draft a CB in the second, draft a TE and RB in the 3rd and 4th depending on who might be available.
Fire Moore. Retain Quinn at all costs. Tell McCarthy that his job is on the line if he doesn't get the penalties and his clock management gaffs under control. Find a reliable kicker even if you have to spend a draft pick to do it.

Bench Dak. Rush is your starting QB while the Rookie QB learns. Can Dak earn the starting spot back? Sure, but don't let it be his just because of his pay and tell him in no uncertain terms that his butt is pine-riding if he can't perform when it matters.
