this time last year.....there wasnt team in league that would have given u anything for him. His somewhat productive season last year lands dallas depth at position fans and media where screaming for depth. Fantastic trade for Dallas who will undoubtly get more out of Barron with better coaching and being on better team.

Plenty of Rams fans would probably say the same about Barron.

You had me up to here.

Why do so many assume that the coaching Barron will get here is any better than what he got in St. Louis?

If it's a straight-up trade, it seems to make sense for both teams.

I like the new av picture.

If Dallas can replicate previous success of taking former 1st rounders and turning them into not just serviceable but trusted OL then it is a great move because Carpenter was leaving no matter what. Sean Lee had already been told his number will be 54 once it is available.

Poor Carp. The body's not even cold yet.

Was that a joke?

It never ceases to amaze me how when a bad player puts on the silver and blue he immediately becomes not a bad player anymore, but "misunderstood" or "he was in a bad situation".

Steve Loney is their oline coach now.

He was the oline coach at Miiny from 2002-2005 where his team gave up 45+ sacks every year and had no running game and then he went on to suck at AZ with Green in 2006. He was out of football except for being the interim coach at Drake University since then.

Their OC is a former QB coach.

Previous to the Spagnuolo regime, St Louis was probably the worst coached franchise in the NFL. Martz who isnt exactly known for his developing of oline was fired his rookie year and Linehan was a joke.

Quite frankly Barron has had AWFUL coaching. I will take Hudson Houck any day.

I just don't think we can assume Houck will be able to coach him up, any more than he was able to turn players like Solomon Page from a sow's ear into a silk purse.

It's most likely that Barron is as bad as he is because of Barron and not his offensive line coaches. Now, it's possibly with more maturity/time, he'll improve his game some, and it's possible that with better players around him and some technique work, he'll improve his game some. But I see no reason at all to get our hopes up on those things.

Good trade for both teams. It appears that both players were essentially done with their respective teams. Barron can silence are critics by busting his *** and improving his game. So can Barbie...

If anything we added experience and depth. what more do you want?

I think it's more wishful thinking, which is understandable. But I just think it's a bad idea to think that we're "undoubtedly" going to get more out of him than the Rams did.

He is what he is, until he proves differently.

I would like to see Lee in a different number.

For crying out loud, after Carpenter wore 54, the number has been tainted.

Rest Randy White's number, please.

I need to go watch NFL films, to see the real 54 for Dallas.

Not sure why some are so down on Barron....his numbers were comprably to Flo last year. Dallas gets a 4 year starter while giving up a LB who started one game in his career. Most likely Carp was going to be released. Barron is an upgrade over the "move Davis to LT and plug Holland into Guard position. if Free get hurts. I get the sense fan base might be getting little spoiled when we land a starting LT who will play back-up ....give up practically nothing and some are still saying...."were not done right?"

That said, as a back-up swing tackle, I think he should be o.k. As a starter for a Super Bowl calibre team I'd be concerned . . . .

I'd wager, however, as a back-up swing tackle, he'd rank at least middle of the pack with respect to his NFL peers.

With great respect to Randy White, please do not forget about Chuck Howley as well.

And the immortal Darren Hambrick.

Not down on him, just trying to be realistic about him. It's a good trade in that it gets us an experienced backup for the tackle positions. I see no reason to expect any more than that, though. He's had five seasons to hit his stride, and instead he's hitting the door.

If Dallas gets a short-term backup at a position of need for a short-term backup at a position of strength, then that's a good move. If somehow he turns out to be more than that, then that's great, but it's not something that should be expected at this point in his career.

Its not all or nothing.

I am sure that quite a bit of his struggles have to do with him as a player. That being said he quite possibly has had the worst coaching in the NFL over the course of the last 5 seasons.

Won't argue against any of that. I don't know where he stands leaguewise as a backup tackle, but at least he's been in the game (and has done well at times).

Compared to what else we've got at the position, he has that going for him.

Who knows, before the season ends he might not even be the best backup tackle on the team. But right now, we just don't know if anyone else is going to show anything at the position, and that's a good reason to acquire Barron.
