Mingo can play end in the Cowboys scheme too. They liked him last year as they should have.

Curious. Why are we comparing him to mingo? Size?

Bruce Irvin and Cameron Wake fit that mold, too.

Or did I just miss his pre-draft comparisons?

We're comparing him to Mingo because it helps perpetuate the narrative that we made a poor trade to get an undersized guy who will be playing out of position, and part time. Thus providing the OP and co something to complain about.

For what it's worth, I like the guy and all indications are we had a very high grade on him.

Lawrence HAS to be a really good player to make this worth it.

If he is just a so-so player and we have to use a first rounder on a guy next year then we will have a 1st 2nd and 3rd tied into one position.

It has to workout or it will be a massive blow.

Also we need to draft some talent today that can help us now and not look for the guy who is mainly a special teamer.

Yeah I wanted the prototypical DE, 6'5" 280 lbs, sub 4.7 speed (For a 1-2 rounder.) And a ranch in the mountains but hey its not my money right?:D

Frank Coyle of Draft Insiders Digest does a "Hindu Theory" on the top prospects every year. A past or current player that the prospect reminds him of. His Hindu theory for Lawrence was Robert Mathis.

3 year rule really applies to this kid. Give him some time to develop.

Ok how many undersized guys put up these kinds of numbers playing out of position?

But I'd say if he turns out this good it was worth it, but year one was 3 sacks, last year was 19....

You draft players for their projected production over their career not just the first year.

Demarcus Lawrence walks into Dallas with more natural pass rush skills than anyone on the roster. Including Anthony Spencer.

I understand that but you expect more from 1-2 rounders early. I'm calming down though, thanks for being cool about your pick...

Mingo played 668 snaps and got 5 sacks, he's also a lil fella like Lawrence. ;)

Mingo plays OLB (As he should, not DE,) Lawrence is only going to be playing limited snaps out of position..

Do we have anymore samples to compare this expensive part timer to?

I hate to bring Madden into the conversation, but for a comparison it might be easier. In terms of speed, I'm going to guess Lawrence's speed is somewhere in the late 70's, whereas, Mingo's was 90 in the last addition of Madden. So, for my team, only 1 makes the cut. Guess who?

That move threw me for a loop because Lawrence was my #1 pet cat in this draft. He's the one that curls up in my lap as I nod off to DVRed episodes of Say Yes to the Dress.

But I hate, Hate, HATE losing that 3rd round pick.

Still, if you told me the Cowboys would start this draft with Zach Martin and Demarcus Lawrence I'd be like oh heck yes.
