With all the hype, entitlement, and confidence that players either need to play in pro football, let's get this straight to the core of the problem. It's true that players need to play with confidence in pro football for the Dallas Cowboys. Like one of our great head coach Jimmy Johnson said, Treat a person as he is, and he will remain as he is. Treat a person as if he were where he could be and should be, and he will become what he could be and should be.” As well as the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.”

Examples of this that I am refering to relates to safety Roy Williams, who once tried to sneak out after practice, but our great safety Darren Woodson grabbed Roy by the rear end, and made roy sit down and study film with Darren Woodson. Woody was trying to show roy williams what it took and the way you work towards being a Dallas Cowboys player and doing it the right way, the Cowboys way.

The present Dallas Cowboys have no idea of how that really works. Nate Newton, said it best, when the Dallas Cowboy players were being laughed at in 88, 89 and 90, that the players had to work hard, study extra on their own after practice. An all pro cornerback Herb Adderly told the Cowboys when Herb joined the Cowboys from the Packers, I will show you what it takes to win championships, it's the little things like after practice working with each other. Rayfield Wright did this with young Harvey Martin in early 70's, as well as All Pro DE Charles Haley said he did with Larry Allen. Haley said, he beat Larry's rear end big time, but that brought out the competitiveness from Larry to become great and work hard. Larry Allen went on to say that Troy Aikman told him once, you need to work alittle harder and Larry took it to heart.

When you have players leave early after practice, and not work hard, studying film, then this team won't change. Again, Charles Haley said it best, when Jason Garrett brought in ex Cowboys players like the Moose, Larry Allen, Leon Lett, and others, and hardly any players went over to ask the players questions, to get techniques and advice from the former players. Right there points to what Bradie James said, where some players still feel that they are entitled to win, without the hard work among other things.

That attitude has to change, and change now. Just like Jason Garrett said, the best players will play regardless of position or career, experience. These players have to be held accountable to themselves, as well as from the Dallas Cowboys coaches, and management like Jerry Jones and Stephen. Jerry Jones said it best when interviewed on 105.3thefan when asked if it bothers him that players like OG Holland come in to camp out of shape, and Jerry replied, yes it bothers him.

Thats what is wrong with some of the players on this team. WE just are hearing now, how WR Roy Williams is out of shape and not ready to play for the Bears. Granted, WR Roy is no longer a Dallas Cowboys player, but that shows some of the laid back attitude by the players and some ex coaches no longer on this team. I still feel that a few coaches on this team like Campo still on the team are affecting our players. For instance, when our running backs coach Peete says that if a fullback just gets in the way and prevents the defender from making the play, that is good play to Peete. Where the heck is the coach demanding that the fullback blows up the defender and push him back with pop and open up a hole for rb to run through.

There is some still serious wrong attitude on the team that needs to be changed and fixed.

Another example was in training camp, after most players were going into the locker room, Jason Witten was seen on the field after practice, working on the pads machine, trying to get his blocking honed down towards blocking better. Where were the other players? In the locker room, having a good ole time, while great TE Jason Witten was working hard to get better.

I feel that like Michael Irvin said once, when Jimmy Johnson became head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, that Irvin called Jimmy on the phone and said, this player and that player needed to go because they were content on just getting a pay check, and as long as they made the playoffs now and then, management and fans should be happy.

The current Dallas Cowboys players shouldnt be entitled or think they deserve to win till they earn it. And I don't care a bleep about M Holland, who came into camp fat and out of shape, get rid of a few players like that, with laid back atttitude and not ready to work, and you will see this team change for the best. Granted we might suffer some with young OG Nagy and Costa playing some, but in the long run the Cowboys will be better off, especially at the end of the year. You have to play with players that want to play hard, give an all out effort on and off the field, not with players that are content just to get a paycheck.

I see the new buzzword at cowboyszone.com is "entitlement or entitled".

must be, Roy must have thought of that when he was playing last year at a better pace than the year before. Must be the new media word than that tells fans what to say so it sounds like they know whats going on.

Culture. In just one word, that sums it up.

We have heard it all before, a culture of winning, a culture of losing, etc~

Cultures are not born overnight. Our current culture is in transition right now, and has been since the day Garrett became the HC. Parcells was to far to one side, his work ethic, his game playing or use of psychology wore thin with the players and the lack of real success turned to resentment by the players. He was successful to a point, but bad luck or critical mistakes kept the dream from being realized. Winning begets a winning attitude. His philosophy, tried and tested failed because the results did not follow.

Phillips was too far to the other. For every failure, he had an excuse. The players soon learned that they had no negative repercussions for their negative, unproductive efforts. We know the result. Part of his early success with the team can be attributed to a carry over from Parcells. The players loved the laid back attitude but they remembered the other side of the coin as well, and worked in spite of themselves. Eventually, they just went through the paces.

Of course I speak in generalities here, not ALL players fit the same mold so when I say they, I of course mean just that middle "majority" of players. You always have the 20% who work hard and give their best every day, and that opposing 20% who would rather slack their way through if they can. In the middle, you have 60% who need LEADERSHIP.

Garrett will provide the fertile ground, but the players must take the opportunity to become the best they can be. That is the same for all the teams.

Haley was driven, and he would drive those around him. Ditto for all the other greats mentioned by the OP. The difference I think, is that now, with Garrett at the helm, the TEAM LEADERS will be given the support that they need from on high to LEAD.

Let's give it a little time, like I said... it doesn't happen overnight and there is the smell of change in the air. Just the fact that Garrett was there during the days of Jimmy Johnson means that he understands the details of creating a winning culture. That should say with certainty from which direction the wind now blows.

Total BS. His way worked just fine, that 13-3 team that Wade was lucky enough to coach in his first year was HIS team, they had been making progress since the day he became our head coach. Since then, the culture changed because Wade is just soft and team became soft.

Maybe some of the players did resent Parcells. But you can believe they also feared him. And all of this "we're professionals, we play the game hard no matter what" BS is just that, BS.

A Parcells apologist? The Switzer SB Team was Johnson's... what is your point? Bill never won squat here that really mattered any more than Wade did.

The total BS is that we had a team that could win in the regular season but not in the playoffs. Maybe you consider the regular season record as the end all, I consider it just the cost of the ticket to the "tournament" as old Bill used to say. A division championship... yep, those are remembered down through the decades. We will talk about it for years!

When I think of Bill, I think of how much I enjoyed his methods, entertaining to say the least. The old NY Giant greats of Bill's tenure there walking our sidelines in support of Bill... it tore at my heartstrings. Not really. But we should all be able to agree... the results were lacking. If it were otherwise, he would have either retired from here, or would still be here with another ring or two to show for his efforts.

The point of every season for every team is to win the one that matters. Conference Champioships are consolation prizes, and we never got one of those under either of these guys. So face reality.

Bill is still a great coach in my opinion, but he was behind the curve in understanding the kids today. I think he would say as much himself. And if you can't truly understand them, you can't truly motivate them to great things. Parcells didn't, and Wade didn't.

Garrett I believe, can... and will.
