Its not all "Washington ran over us"......

It was a mix of turnovers, penalties and short field position for Skins. They passed over us in scoring drives more than ran it in......

Score Drive yards Rushes

7 21 yards 2-7 rushing TD Pass
14 75 yards 5-31 rushing TD Pass
21 34 yards 0-0 rushing TD Pass
28 38 yards 0-0 rushing TD pass
35 21 yards 6-21 rushing 1 yard TD Run

I agree with some of this even though you can say that about alot of wins.

You have to also throw in the fact that we didnt get any pressure on Brunell. Besides the score, Brunell having so much time to throw was the biggest surprise to me.

Our offense is basically killing the entire team + Cundiff.

And our linebackers can't cover the edges.

I tivo'd a lot of Larry Johnson edge rushed - Ware was getting owned.

And yes I should have added no pressure on Brunnel.

I agree, but it set a tone. That student body left left our defense in such dissaray that they could not recover from it.

There were a lot of things early in this game that caused the game to turn out the way it did.

Number one was the run D (It just set a bad tone), #2 the first pass by Bledsoe, #3 was the FG miss, #4 was the penalties, and #5 were the dropped passes.

But make no mistake, if we shut down those first few running plays we would have set the tone!!!!

Not only that, but the MLB's are getting owned as well. Keep James, upgrade Shanle/Fujita

You just have to go in there and explode/disrupt those plays. Our D just sits back and tries to shed there block which they cannot do.

On one of our offensive plays like that a Commander defender came flying up and exploded our blocker, he did not make the tackle but pretty much blew up the play.

They used play action passes to score. That works because they were running all over the defense. We got beat in every way. Are you saying that their running game was not successful?

The defense has been stout against the run most of the season. I would say only Oakland, San Francisco, Philly the second time, KC and Washington the second time have had success running againt the defense. And of those, KC and Washington really dominated, which means they dictated the game against the defense. Their success rushing opened up everything else for them.

I don't think the Broncos or Giants had that type of success even though the put up over a 100 yards. The Broncos got a fluke long run in overtime. Dallas held them to 89 yards in regulation. They blew an assignment in overtime. They played the run well otherwise.

They held the Giants to under 4 yards a carry and didn't allow the running game to open up the passing game for Eli. That is effective defense.

Against KC and Washington, the defense was on its heels. Sure it doesn't help that the offense was giving up short field position, but I don't think it would have mattered. KC moved the ball the length of hte field a few times. This team is getting beat at the LOS and pushed back. That has to improve.

Ware gets owned every week. This is nothing new. He just wasn't ready to be in this position.

Nors, the Commanders played fast and determined to win. Dallas played slow and determined to coast through the game. Tha was the difference - nothing else.

The question for me is why? Why is it that we came into this game with such high expectation to win that no sense of urgency was placed on the game by the Cowboys? That lack of urgency showed up on the field in lackadazical play. Why is it that Gibbs prepared his players to have a "Beat Dallas" attitude, but Parcells had Dallas treating this as "just another game"?

Who cares about Larry Johnson, we beat Kansas City. I kind of expected Johnson to have a good game.

We shut down Portis the first time, and he ran all over us this time. What were the key differences between the games? Why did we fail to contain Portis at all this time?

Short field position sure helped them. I still see 4 TD passes and pass dominated drives.

The Commanders owned the LOS on both sides of the ball. They closed off running lanes and collapsed the pocket consistently on defense. And offensively, Brunnel had all day to throw and their OLinemen were establishing a new LOS 3-4 yds downfield on nearly every running play. That's why they won and dominated the game. The manhandled us. It's that simple.

Yeah, the reason some of the member of the secondary and linebackers was getting owned was because there were pulling guards and center constantly on the second and third level.

I.E. the Terence Newman trainwreck, where the Guard knocked him so hard he turned backwards and then while his back was turned got completely ran over by Betts.

Ouch

Next year, Spears and Canty will peal off of those blocks, Book it! These teams had better beat on us while they can, because our defense will be a monster in the next 1 to 2 years.

Watch the replay. Newman initiated the contact with Dockery and knocked him back. Both guys ended up being turned around and I think Dockery ended up on the ground. Unfortunately for Newman that left him in the path of Portis. Still he got in Portis' way. There just was no pursuit.

It's only page 2 and someone already pulled out the "Book it". Could be a long thread.

It is going to be a long thread, book it. :D

We all know why this thread was started. If you say that the Dallas defense got run over, you are somehow bashing the 3-4 scheme, so you must be squashed.

How about we just want the defense to play better? Offense and special team, too? The reason I am concerned is that the defense is the one facet of the game I could reasonbly count on all season and now they have laid an egg two weeks in a row.
