Remember last year when the season begun and no one knew who would be the "starter" between Jenkins and Scandrick?

I'm sure you do.

I was concerned that the staff didn't have a named "starter". But they had plan. It was called Plan Competition.

As it turned out, we found out Jenkins was last year's best corner. The guy was clutch. I won't put him up there with Newman until he shows Newman's level of consistency. But the way his emergence played out was a thing of beauty.

Now we've groomed young talent in Jenkins and Scandrick. They will only improve. These guys are young. And these guys are good, in my humble opinion.

With Roy likely on his way out, why don't we find out who our next #3WR is by letting them compete by sharing the 4th WR starting duties just like Jenkins and Scandrick did last year?

It's quite possible we could get a clearer picture of who the better WR is in 4WR sets or in 3WR sets when one of our WR is taking a break, perhaps late in the game or when one is winded or injured.

I think it's clear that unless Roy has 1,000 yards and 12 TDs that he'll be a goner simply because he costs too much. Jerry will have to take it as a lesson learned and suck up his pride. I've always said Roy has all the physical attributes, he just doesn't have the drive to win anymore. He's done it. So, imo, he's kind of lazy. Having said that, let's hope he turns it around.

I do think that we'll have very much success with on Roy our team this year. I really do think he'll find a niche' on this team and succeed.

Fans will always hate on him because he's not going to be Miles Austin nor Randy Moss, but he can play a role on this team. I just don't know if he's worth the money we pay him (as a Cowboy fan...as a Lonhorn fan, I want him on the Cowboys).

In any case, the reality is we're going to need a better 3WR next year. So with the future in mind, would it be a bad idea to name Hurd the starter for the first game and Ogletree the starter for the second?

Yes, there would be times when the staff thinks one will match up better than the other. But we saw that last year. Remember when people were calling for Jenkin's head and for Scandrick to be the starter. Jenkins blew a few things early on, but so did Scandrick.

The point is, in the end we found our player. With Crayton gone we need to know what we have in these young guys.

It worked last year. And now we have two young players, where we know almost exactly what we have and what they're capable of doing. Because next year, I don't think Roy will be a Cowboy. Just my opinion.

I hope to see Hurd start against the Skins and Ogletree against Chicago.

What you say?

What's funny now is, teams have no idea what to expect from our passing game. We showed them zilch in preseason. Ah, I smell game time coming on.

Well, RW is one of Jerra's biggest mistakes.
but who knew how much RW would stink? The concensus at first was "Great deal!"
Now we know better.
What I meant when I wrote mistakes was that with hindsight, Jerra still refuses to say it was a mistake. He is the perpetual optimist. And, yes, there was a lot of money invested in Old Roy.

And would we love to see lots more of Hurd and Ogle? I would. But it is gonna be difficult with the big three, Big austin, big dez and little big roy.

I say Ogle has the most upside. Hurd is old news. The experiment from 3 seasons past. Hurd is a journeyman and nothing more. Special teams, yeah, but IMHO his salary for this niche is a bit high.

My question to you is: how would we "start" either?

But Gimme, in all fairness to Hurds, he never really got his chance last year starting behind Crayton and Roy. He did come in and show a few impressive flashes. The few times he did play, he stood out. I was reading another's post about Hurd on STs....and a light bulb, although it be a dim one, flashed on in mah heads, gimme.

Ah seen them same flashes of lights, mah own self.

Hurds has himself some talents that I think we alls gawn be surprised when he unleash it. I see a player in him, gimme--a durn good one.

Ever player needs themselves a chance. Otherwise, they won't be able to show theys can play.

(I was shooting for Gimmetheball's style there. How'd I do?)

If by #3 we're talking about slot, then I don't think either Hurd nor Ogletree make the cut. Yeah we invested too much in RW but he's not a bad reciever. He drops balls but he's productive. If you look at him as the #2 last year, althought he was paid like a #1 his stats were comparable with any #2 in the NFL. If they could resign him next year and pay him as a #2, I'm all for keeping him. I'm not sure there's a team that will sign him to a big contract so he might as well stay where he has the chance to win a ring.

I always like shorter guys in the slot too.

I fell for your plain-speaking style until I read the above. Well, even the fake stuff gits me in the heart, so thank yew.

Yes! Hurd has not had his chance.
No! Hurd will not get his chance.
How can he with Dez/Austin/Witten/Roy getting the spirals ahead of him and Ogle jockeying for a chance too?

I hear ya but I think it will be rare the times we see Hurd.

I disagree. We're one injury away from seeing a lot of Hurd. We'll see more of him on ST, too. And so he'll also get more experience and exposure there. That is, if he doesn't get cut or somethin'.
