There was plenty to be positive about last night, and had the Cowboys defended two desperation plays properly, we'd be talking about improvements in a number of areas rather than playing the "Blame Game". First, the Offensive line did a good job on pass protection and Petitti did yeoman work over at RT. Secondly, the CB play overall was solid. Newman got a pick and Henry was all over his guys for most of the night. Third, Bledsoe made decsions that did not turn over the ball or result in a sack. These are areas that the Boys can continue to build on.
As far as the difficulties go, thre were a number of areas that I feel the team will address this week. First, While pressure was brought to bear on Brunell early in the game, it was noticeably absent or it was slow in developing late in the game. Our guys were having to blitz to get good pressure, and Our DL wasn't collapsing the pocket like they need to. Secondly, we had too many swing passes for negative yardage, leaving us with too many second and quite-long situations. Thirdly, Bledsoe and the WR's struggled to get in sync, particularly in the second half. Despite having good time to throw the ball, several passes went into the dirt , or went to where nobody could catch them. With a strong armed QB and decent size and speed at the WR position, we need to see the ball go downfield.
Having said this, I take nothing away from Washington. They did not quit and made just enough plays to win. While we are understandably dissappointed, the mistakes made are quite correctable and we can expect to see improved play in our next game and beyond.
