FIRST ROUND DTs: Can we pass on any of these guys at 18

Star Lotulelei, Utah : Star is a disruptive force and a load to handle for any guard or center one-on-one.
Sheldon Richardson, Missouri : Never stops exploding off the ball and into his opponent on every snap
John Jenkins, UGA Jenkins displays an impressive combination of power and grace.
Jonathan Hankins, Ohio St. : Has some intensity issues and runs out of gas
Sharrif Floyd, Florida : all around the DLine this guy excels
Kawaan Short, Purdue : Senior Bowl moved him into the late first we will not see him in the second RD at our pick.

SECOND ROUND DTs:

Jesse Williams, Alabama
Sylvester Williams, UNC
Brandon Williams, Missouri S. State

THIRD ROUND DTs:

Bennie Logan, LSU
Kwame Geathers, UGA

FOURTH ROUND DTs:

Jordan Hill, Penn St.
Akeem Spence, Illinois

FIFTH ROUND DTs:

Everett Dawkins, Florida St.

My personal opinion is DT/DE in the first, best value vs OLine

I'd put Jordan Hill in the 2nd or 3rd.

I didn't know Geathers was from the Georgetown clan. That'll be three in the NFL.

RB I like his motor, 2nd seems ambitious, I am probably like you and think there is going to be a run on the Dlineman in this draft and that some will be picked earlier than we are slotting. In the second and third I would have a hard time picking him compared to the other talent. Of course I am no scout only a reader of the football media. My claim to fame last year was having Danny Coale in my mock. I did have Hanna as a UDFA.

Wouldn't be surprised if Williams from UNC goes in the 1st. If he has a good combine, look out. He can play.

in a normal year for DT maybe.

This year? Very doubtful. This is a creepysick class.

Star wont be there at 18 so: 1) Richardson has double digit sack ability.

2) Floyd also can collapse pocket

2A) Short maybe the best fit for this defense

diff schemes will lead to diff rankings.

i will try to be scheme agnostic as possible here.

Star Lotulelei, Utah: Top 3-4 or 4-3 Nose Tackle. Had Ngata-like potential and strength.
Jonathan Hankins, Ohio St.: Could be dropped but size is a huge advantage here. Can play any DT spot.
Sheldon Richardson, Missouri : 3 tech or 3-4 DE. Very disruptive player. A lot of JJ Watt in him. Cocky as can be. Has swagger galore.
Kawaan Short, Purdue: Showed at Senior Bowl he could provide consistent effort and beat single-teams with ease.
John Jenkins, UGA: Looks the part and has tons of potential. Need to see more from him every down.
Sharrif Floyd, Florida: Great athlete who can play 3 positions in a 4-3. May not be dominant at any of them though. Will need more technique work. 3-4 DE could be a nice home.
Datone Jones: I think this guy can gain another 10 pounds and play a 3 Technique for you. So quick off ball inside. Reminds me of Ratliff with a bit less mass. Not an anchor guy but real value an inside pass rusher.

Oh I agree Star will be gone in the top ten easily. I am in agreement with your rankings although I think Richardson would be the best fit for this defense.

I did not think of adding Datone Jones to the DT list. He could be a 3 technique and he really has a good motor.

I would only want Jones at SDE but could slide to DT in the nickel

Also im sad to see Brandon Williams in the 2nd.
I have liked him since he was said to be a 5th.

IMO short is the best DT in this draft period . He has a burst that few men have at that size .

Remember for the DT we need a great 3 technique and a road grader next to him playing the 5 technique, we know that the 3 technique is who will be driving the Delorean, he must be relentless and powerful to use a movie metaphor the plutonium for the flux capacitor. Short is high grade plutonium. Some of the others are Road Graders. I hope we have multiple options.

Star won't be there, but anybody else is a possibility.

Great DT draft and we can snag a good one.

Sylvester Willams is 25 and this is a deep class.

Richardson is a bit of a head case.

Floyd is a safer pick.

Star will be gone. Richardson will probably be gone, but would love to have him.

Short or Floyd could be the pick.

Hope to stay away from Hankins and Jenkins.

I'm going to rank them based on how they fit the Cowboys scheme.

This is a pure talent ranking. Character considerations could eliminate some players.

Kiffin's scheme puts a premium on 1-gap penetrating types, even at the 1-tech.

I didn't include him, but DE Datone Jones could play the 3-tech.

Top Players for Kiffin's defense:
6-3 320 Star Lotulelei
6-3 295 Sheldon Richardson: Character issues?
6-3 308 Kawann Short: Work-Ethic issues?
6-3 303 Sharrif Floyd: It's a toss up between him and S. Williams.
6-3 313 Sylvester Williams
6-2 294 Jordan Hill: Good gap penetrator but anchor is questionable.
6-3 295 Bennie Logan
6-5 328 Montori Hughes: Quicker than I expected but not as strong.

Need to watch more game footage:
6-1 305 Akeem Spence
6-2 288 Everett Dawkins
6-1 313 Cory Grissom

Not a good fit in the scheme, IMO.
6-2 341 Brandon Williams: Would need go from 341 lbs to about 325 lbs.
6-3 320 Jesse Williams
6-4 359 John Jenkins
6-3 320 Johnathan Hankins
6-5 355 Kwame Geathers

Nice work my friend, I personally do not think we get a chance at Richardson at 18 even with his character issues, so for me the choice is Short or S Floyd I think it is early for Short and reasonable for Floyd at our pick as of late Jan. I think we are getting close to our pick if it is a Dlineman.

I think Hankins would be a fine player in this defense. He can push the pocket enough to be worthwhile at mostly the 1 or if we play like Seattle or Denver the 5.
