The Dallas Cowboys taking Ezekiel Elliott with the very next pick at number four would not be that surprising. However, them passing on defensive back Jalen Ramsey to do so would be. The Cowboys have been commonly connected to Ramsey (who Mayock places with the Jacksonville Jaguars at number five), and he has been assumed to be the pick at number four if he falls past the top three.

However, in Mayock’s mock the Cowboys can take Ramsey, but instead opt for the offensive play-maker in Elliott.

“You plug him in there behind an offensive line that’s in their prime, and you take a ton of pressure off 36-year-old Tony Romo,” Mayock said.

If Tony Romo and Dez Bryant can stay healthy this year, the Cowboys are going to have another great year offensively. However, adding Elliott to the mix behind that fantastic offensive line would give the Cowboys arguably the best offensive unit in the entire NFL. Their defense needs some work, but I can totally see the appeal in this selection.

Mayock compared Elliott to former Cowboys’ back DeMarco Murray, and called the soon to be rookie the more talented player. Elliott is a complete back with impressive upside at the next level, and he has legitimate All-Pro potential as a rookie if he lands in Dallas. Love this selection.
