and be that much more flexible in the draft. Even if we were to draft Michael Huff ( I know we won't) I'd still want a veteran presence at FS to help mentor and teach. I'd like to get MC and a draft pick - I'm still holding out for Pat Watkins - anjd move killer back to backup SS and special teams demon.

Here's The Sporting News' take on MC.

2005 scouting report
Strengths: Possesses the size, strength, athleticism and foot speed to play any position in the secondary effectively. Looks smooth and fluid in his pedal when playing center field and plays much faster than his timed speed. Shows good zone techniques and good feel in cover 2. Has excellent hands.

Weaknesses: Is not that aggressive or physical in getting off blocks. Needs to improve angles at times. Will guess and sometimes get out of position. Lacks top speed and burst for the position.

Bottom line: Coleman is an excellent athlete who knows how to play the game. He’s a versatile, ball-hawking safety who makes everyone’s job in the secondary easier.

Coleman is a post draft, close to TC type singing. He's out there. He's not getting many bites right now. The longer we wait the lower his $$ will be.

If the draft falls a certain way, we will not want or need him. Having him on board does not really affect our draft plans I'd think.

He's an Adrian Murrell, Eddie George, Anthony Thomas type singing. (not comparing the players just the signing situations).

If we want him, we'll get him when the time is right. Most likely over the summer.

IMO, Coleman is the type of player you bring in if you have some sudden season-ending injuries at safety in traiing camp, and nothing else.

We have 4 safeties right now Roy , Davis , Pile , and Beriault , who I think alot people of people are forgetting about . If they thought enough of Berry-o to keep a late 6th rounder on I.R. all year , how about giving him a chance . He looked great imo in the limited action I saw him in during preseason last year .

If Cowboys had wanted him, they could easily have signed him cause he certainly hasn't had many bites & doubt he would cost much against the cap. At this point it's obvious they going to wait til after the draft & depending on which players we get, sign those 1-2 FA players who could still help. It's even possible some other teams will cut a few more of their players after the draft who could help us.

That seems about right.

sign him why? nobody is beating down his door to bring him in...he will still be available after the draft

he had a lousy yr as a FS anyway and other than being a "name" people are familiar with, is not that much of an upgrade (if any) over whats already here

he is just another guy

Beriault has a role he can play for this team, but it's not free safety... sorry, he's a strong safety... he's always gonna be better in the box than he is in the deep secondary...

It's wild how Justin has become the flavor of the day, you guys ought to remember that last year's flavor of the day was Killer Keith Davis... and how many of you want to see HIM starting at FS again this year??

Nope, I wouldn't say I'm down on Beriault, but I strongly believe the Cowboys need to bring in a veteran FS for the short term, AND draft one on the first day for the future...

Gimme Lance Schulters or Antuan Edwards, even Marcus Coleman would be acceptable... then, as I discussed in my draft analysis, Pat Watkins would look good in the 3rd round...

SB I just don't see them bringing in both a FA FS and drafting one. I think it's one or the other but not both. Roy makes the team, Jason makes the team. Davis makes the team. And then we have Pile. I'm guessing we'll draft one on the first day and that gives us 5. I doubt we'll carry more than 4 into the season.

I think another guy to look at in the 3rd round of the Draft is D. Manning, who can play both Satety and CB. He would give us some flexibility with respect to roster numbers in the Secondary.

Who's to say they have not already worked a deal out for Coleman but are keeping down low so as to not tip thier hand in the draft:cool: Hey it could happen.

Coleman might be wearing a star when it's all said and done. I don't think we've signed him yet though becauase the draft is coming up, plus I think JJ is waiting to see how the Ty Law situation is going to play itself out first.

from the sounds of things there is no way he hits the 3rd rd though...sems to be a real riser and may go somewhere early to mid 2nd now

We must have a draft pick in mind....
Jerry Jones has hinted at this twice lately. Wish I knew what it meant or he he has his eyes on.
