Let's talk about culture, Schotty's version vs reality

Shotty is not a serious coach. People are delusional if they think he can change anything. The culture starts and stops with those 2 drunken clowns in the Jones clan. That culture includes drunken carousing, drunken decisions, paternity dodging, sexually suggestive talk on hot mics, valuing yes men over a meritocracy, blinding hubris, marketing spin over football decisions, and gaslighting fans that are sick of the 3 decades of suck.

The culture is not changing.

People keep asking this and its been mentioned already Siranni and Dan Campbell...

Checking that feed though I didn't even think about some of the other guys mentioned like Mike Tomlin. And I love Tomlin but does anyone know what he coaches well? Or Harbaugh? Or Sirianni? Or Campbell?
That just it ..........Harbaugh and Campbell were ST. I think Tomlin was DB coach for the Bucs and the defensive coordinator for Vikes one year.

One common denominator of all the names you mentioned is their ability to manage people, especially under pressure. Obviously, we don't know how Schotty will do but Cooper Rush called him one of the best communicators he has been around. Also, I think people forget Schotty has spent his entire life around professional football as Mardy's son. We will see what happens but I am completely sold that Schotty has just as much of a chance to succeed as any other rookie HC hired this cycle.

I love the fact he put his staff together w/o the good ole boy connections......several of his assistants are coaches he's never worked with.

Mike will be Mike but he's sold also......

Well, at least he's trying ...........let's give him a chance

Players either take care of business on the field or they don't.

Spare me the singing around the campfire kumbaya culture krap.

Give me a good roster with good coaching. You can keep your paintball guns.

People are so far gone that they want to be right. I hate this approach among this fanbase. I HOPE I'm always wrong when it comes to this team. I hated the Mike hire, and I wanted to be incorrect. And he coached here better than I expected with those 12-win seasons. I'd go as far as to say he wasn't a failure, and I was wrong. I hate the Shotty hire. But my goodness, let's at least see what he does. He hasn't coached a game yet, and everything is scrutinized and made a joke of.

The paintball guns are his coaching. Is that what you think guys do? Just show up and coach? Just show up and play? In a league where everyone is talented? All of these teams have great talent, they are the best players in the world. You still have to coach. What separates the top from the bottom is coaching, QB play, defense.....

Been saying this could happen........

I recently posted something similar. If and when he fails here it won’t be entirely about him. Just because he wasn’t a top coordinator doesn’t mean he can’t lead a team. Different skill set entirely IMO, but I doubt he (or anyone other than a Parcells type) can overcome the Jerry factor. Sorry but I consider it a problem when the leadership lines are blurry. Players tend to take their lead from that person (clearly Jerry and he wants it that way) and he is about marketing, branding, making money and being a celebrity. The players in general tend to follow.

That aside, I was surprised when Baltimore hired John Harbaugh, special teams coach. That’s gone quite well….and there are tons of examples of top coordinators who couldn’t cut it as HC. Way different job.

30 plus years. 30!!! Don’t judge others. The pessimism is warranted.

This team doesn't have a culture problem, it has a roster problem.

Coaches like to come in and talk about culture because they can't control or change the roster. Sadly Schott is stuck with certain players (bites tongue). Bad management yields bad rosters.

I’m referencing the people whose main goal and purpose is to be right. Even if it’s at the detriment of the Cowboys. People want to be right on Shotty.
You do see a lot of this. People make up their minds about a player (or coach), and stick to that opinion regardless of what new information comes. They ignore facts that don't support their opinion. It's actually kind of funny watching people die on their sword!
