It appears he is hands down the 2nd leading candidate behind Payton for at least 3 teams. There's now talk Payton may return to TV, meaning Dan may have his choice of at least 2 offers. Either way, I think it's safe to say he's gone, just a matter of where. So, who do you see or would like as his possible replacement? It's not a reach to say we could start 2023 with a new DC AND OC.

Fun to speculate but I’m skeptical the cowboys make an outside hire, especially a known name. Those types tend to want to bring their own staff with them. MM has some of his guys going back to GB like Al harris, now we anre talking scheme changes, and jerry may not want to cough up the cash.

I'm going to disagree with that. The conversation of him being a HC somewhere has already come up. He has said he loves it here and wants to stay.
I think if the opportunity presents itself, he's going to take a HC job. The thing with good DCs and OCs, you can stink as a HC but there will always be coordinator jobs available.

I'd assume Whitt or Edwards would be strongly considered. Not for sure how much their mindset for scheme differs from Quinn, if at all. But I'd assume the FO doesn't want to rock the boat since it's been working the past few years.

Hopefully, if Quinn takes a HC job he will have a candid conversation with McCarthy and about who, if anyone, currently on Staff would a good replacement. If not, I like:
  • Vic Fangio, former NFL defensive coordinator and head coach
  • Brian Flores, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive assistant
  • Jerod Mayo, New England Patriots inside linebackers coach

Edward has an expiring contract and I'm not sure Jerry will trust Whitt enough. Just me, but it would not surprise me if Jerry and Stephen NOW see the defense and Parsons as the pillars of the team, NOT Dak and the offense.

Fangio is likely at the top of every team's list. Remember early rumors had he and Payton as a package. Guess that's no longer the case.
Flores is a 3-4 guy...

The Cowboys defense will be at the top of every prospective coordinators list. The best DCs can't be boxed into a scheme stereotype. I'm sure Flores can be innovative with personnel.
