So this guy was a 5 star recruit. Had first round grades after 2024. Took a step back in 2025. He missed a couple games late in the season due to clotting and / or respiratory issues. Did this kid have a pulmonary embolism? If so that explains the fall off. So I watched a few 2024 highlight videos and here is what I see.

He replaces ODiggy. Better athlete and more versatile than 97.
Stout versus the run. Plays with good leverage. Long arms and fundamentally sound.
Lined up inside, outside, 4 point, 3 point, 2 point stances. They had him in every gap along the front.
He does not have great speed but hustles after the play.
Get off is average but he is strong and pursues well.
Fights through blocks and double teams. 280 pounds but plays heavier.
Very good hands. You can tell he was well coached and is a smart kid.
I think his versatility makes him a great pick. He can do a lot. Not an edge guy but can play C and D gaps.

At 137 this kid is the steal of the draft.

Thoughts?

For what he will be asked to do I think he is already elite at that for a college player which is basically being strong & playing well against the run.

Typical 3/4 end.

You draft these types in round 3 & down imo.

He’ll be a solid player for us in the role he is asked.

High floor / low ceiling.

Likely 4i for us. More stout against the run than Osa needs to develop some on pass rusher, not considered a high twitch bendy dude but in this system he doesn't need to be.

Like the pick, one of several guys they showed interest in during process Id thought they'd grab.

There was a theme with all the picks. They all seem to hustle. The team fell in love with Mazi's strength but overlooked his lack of love for the game. The team put the length and athleticism of Taco and Gregory over the priorities of their laziness. I like the change of direction. I think the old buzzard is finally letting his chefs shop for their own food.

He shows strong hands. He will never be a dip and rip guy but maybe can get some chop moves perfected to be a better pass rusher. On a few plays I saw him get really small to shoot through a gap. That was impressive.

I thought this was a great add and a value pick. Kid was an elite 5* recruit that got stuck behind several other elite 5* recruits and veterans at Texas A&M. But I know A&M wanted to keep him and he was expected to break out in Year 3. Saban actually recruited him via the transfer portal and then abruptly retired, so the kid got screwed a bit because Saban would have played him more as a 5 tech type DE lineman in his 3-4 (basically what his role will be here). Instead, he probably got square holed into Wommack's scheme...which wasn't the best fit for him, yet he was still productive.

This is what I'm thinking too. We got him to go end in 3-4 looks. That way the front can stay heavy with Kenny/Q or in a back-up rotation.

Overton is a prototypical DE in a 3-4.

Don't judge him by his stats, his job isn't to create sacks. His job is to control the line of scrimmage so the LB can swoop in and make the play.

You won't hear his name often; he'll be too busy doing the dirty work.

Some sites have him at 6'5 some sites have him at 6'3 and 6'4... how tall is the guy. he's about 275-280, if he really is 6'5 might be able to carry 285 - 290. if he's 6'3 might need to drop to 265 and be a OLB.

he looks good at a SDE / 5T but the 3-4 needs dudes that are bigger and 275 - 280 is light in the pants if you ask me.

Same question I had. The official team site has him listed at 6'3 and 274. His athleticism graph has in the 1 percentile on weight!
