Right now, looking at this roster, the Cowboys have done a pretty solid job of filling holes with at least decent mid level moves. Having said that the LB position is still the chink in the armor. So that’s going to probably be a priority in the draft.
Having said that need is not a one year thing. The recent corner acquisition seems to signal a desire to have a lot of flexibility in this draft rather than have it be needs based.
You have needs it OT, LB, S, DT, CB and DE/Edge. You also have a lesser need at RB2.
I think DT/DE was always a bigger need than anyone focused on.
I believe that the best possibility of Dallas getting BPA to line up with needs is going to be a trade down from one or both of those first round picks. We will need numbers.
If we trade down from both of those FRPS we are going to have at least ONE of the above positions being that blinking light after that trade down that says come and get me.
We need probably two and preferably three of the following:
Allen LB
Golday LB
Rodriguez LB
Trotter LB
Lewis LB/S
York LB
Murdock LB
Styles LB
Lawson LB
Heinecke LB
I’m sure I am missing a few of the other high value targets but any three of these guys would be a huge change to this roster. And they are stretched out far enough (valuation) that you don’t have to force the pick.
If one of the top 3 OTs is on the board with that first pick after the trade down it’s going to be an option for Dallas. DT is also going to be in play there as well with that first pick after a double trade down.
Outside of Allen and Styles ALL of the linebackers will probably still be on the board after a double trade down and there is an outside chance that Allen will still be available depending on where the pick falls.
There are 6 or 7 safeties that can help us through out the draft. Price the RB could also be BPA in a trade back.
I think THE KEY to the Cowboys having a home run draft is a trade back from 12 that gives us great value. If that happens, ladies and gentleman we are going to be cooking with gas.
