I hope the coaches sit all of the key players down for this pre-season game, looks like the field is in terrible shape

Plans to hold a public training camp practice for up to 20,000 fans at Levi's Stadium on Sunday were scrapped due to poor playing conditions on the grass field, the San Francisco 49ers announced Thursday night.

Practice will be moved to the adjacent practice facility, closed to the public and will not be rescheduled.

The team had promoted a free random drawing, first for 10,000 fans before upping the number to 20,000 last week.

"We extend our sincere apologies to those fans who were scheduled to attend Sunday's practice," Jim Mercurio, vice president of stadium operations and general manager of Levi's Stadium, said in a statement. "After a thorough inspection earlier today, our grounds crew determined that the field would not be ready by Sunday. Therefore, the recommendation was made to relocate practice. We remain confident that our turf management program will provide a playing surface that meets the team's standards, as we enter the 2015 NFL season."

So they built a billion-dollar stadium that would provide a more reliable grass surface than the mud pit they left behind, and some yahoo brought the turf with him.

This crystalizes California in a nutshell.

I know playing on grass is great. There is nothing like it. But with the advances in artificial turf I figured someplace like SF would ahve gone hands down artificial. But of course it is Califonia where logic is optional when you cross into the state.

They built a stadium that makes them further away from San Francisco than Oakland is.

In other words, if you are in the City of San Francisco, you are significantly closer to where the Raiders play football than to where the 49ers play football.

Yes, but you have to travel to Beirut to watch the Raiders play, so the 49ers still win the local favor.
