Life without Deuce Vaughan?

To be fair to Deuce, he may well carve out a niche on this team if this staff uses him. It's hard to fathom he broke records at Kansas, was highly productive against the big 10, and Bama. Yet can't sniff opportunities in the NFL. It's odd.

Could anyone imagine the Cowboys without #42 this season? With our need for running backs that can make plays, is there a place for him on this roster?? What would keep him or cost him to not be a Cowboy?? Please give your thoughts
Who? Another nepotism draftee.

He’s had 40 carries his first two seasons and is averaging only 2.8. He doesn’t have the size and he can’t block. Plus the only special teams he plays is as returner. Kansas isn’t the NFL. Some seem to forget he was our second 6th round pick.

Drafting him was a publicity stunt nothing more. Everyone knew he would never amount to anything in the NFL.

He never should of even been on this team or any NFL team. Unfortunately he is just small.

6th round picks generally aren’t taking snaps day 1
For most positions yes but running back should be able to handle a few snaps. Not start, I get blocking might be suspect, but if a running back can't run from day 1 that is a problem. And it is no longer day 1, 2 years in and he's terrible at running.

I’m willing to find out what life would be like without Duece on the roster.
We are on a sports board so I shall say I'm willing to find out what life would be like with Deuce on the roster and used in a proper way. Dude never had a chance and the old coaches never had a clue on how to use Deuce correctly. His old college coach is here now and I am interested in seeing one Deuce Vaughn running behind a different scheme. Then if he can't get loose and gets tackled for little to no gain every play then and only then will I say that I'm willing to find out what life would be like without Deuce on the roster. As it stands we just have opposite points of view but we are Cowboy fans and you all right. Go Cowboys!!!!!

I blame that moreso on the scheme/playcalling. He didn’t get many touches at all and a lot he got was in situations where they’re tryna burn clock so he’s running into a brick wall. And he got hit in the backfield a lot. When things were blocked well (which was rare) he got good yards. Rico Dowdle didn’t play here significantly for years and looked solid when he actually got real touches. I think the same could need true for Deuce.

Rico couldn't stay healthy and was behind more proven guys until last year. I'd buy this if Vaughn was in his 1st year. But even after zeke left he couldn't really make a good case for more playing time. Maybe 3rd year is the charm....or they were just wrong about the kid being able to play.

He only got 17 carries last year so we have no way to know for sure. Maybe he isn’t playing well enough in practice to get more regular season snaps idk. But He averaged 4.1 yards a carry though which is decent for a depth rb.

Explain how drafting the top player on your draft chart when you are on the clock is a wasted pick.
The same way the defensive line scouts or McClay or somebody wasted drafting Trysten Hill, Taco Charlton and now, quite possibly, Mazi Smith.
While considered a top player on their board, the end result was the same.

A wasted pick.

So the defensive line scouting in this example should be looked into imo.
IF the defensive line mis evaluations continue then that scout(s) should be held accountable and dealt with accordingly to avoid further wasted picks.

It would bother me if he's gone. One day they will make a remake of Different Strokes or Webster, and he will have that role locked up.
