Wade Phillips' job as coach of the Dallas Cowboys is safe for the remainder of the season, owner Jerry Jones said Thursday.

Jones was confronted with questions about Phillips' job status for the second consecutive week. Last week, he said his coach would finish out the season "without equivocation."
"We've got a chance to get a lot of things done," Jones said Thursday during his weekly radio interview on KRLD-FM. "And we've got a lot of football left to play, and we've got some good people that not only can play it but coach it."
Jones' endorsement of Phillips for the rest of this season comes during Dallas' bye week and follows what could have been one of the Cowboys' worst losses ever -- had they not defeated the winless Kansas City Chiefs in overtime on Sunday.
Since buying the Cowboys in 1989, Jones has never made a coaching change during the season.
Phillips is in the final year of a three-year contract and the Cowboys have an option to bring him back in 2010.
"Two years ago the Giants were seemingly not in disarray, but they were in trouble," Jones said. "It was also absolutely expected that something was going to happen with the coach, [Tom] Coughlin. ... Well, that same year they won the Super Bowl. You've got to be mindful that this is a long, long journey. ... A lot can happen from the beginning to the end."

If we beat the Falcons it'll be interesting to see if the "fire Wade" talk stops.

It'll take a lot more than that in my opinion.

Firing a head coach mid-season is never a good thing, even if it's deserved.

Think about it, if you were a potential head coach interviewing for the job, would you want to sign with a team that showed it wouldn't let the last guy finish out his season or try to go to a team with a patient front office that won't bail on you?

Did anybody think it would be any different? IF Jerry did not admit the mistake after last season, this should be no suprise.

There is really no good reason to fire any NFL head coach during the season imo.

What about the Raiders head coach?

I agree that a mid season coaching change has never really worked out,but personally I still would like to see Wade gone. However it would be bad for team moral to dismiss Wade with a 3-2 record I believe, but if he has this team out of contention I would like too see Garrett in an interim role.If Garrett were to bring something to the table give him an interview,if not you send him down the highway. If Jerry was really interested in having Wade around after this season he would have picked up Wade's option for another year.Instead you have a soft coach who's authority is further diminished by his lame duck contract status.

The moment Jerry said Wade would come back for this year it was a foregone conclusion that he'd be here the entire year regardless of what happened.

Not suprised but depending on how we finish, it will be an interesting offseason. There will be alot of teams looking to hire head coaches...

He'll be gone after the season. And I'm happy these questions are being asked of Jerry, i like him having to acknowledge that this coaching staff just didn't get it done.
