1...Dez Bryant. A bit of a problem child after lying to NCAA and getting suspended last season. Could be one of those Diva WRs, but his talent warranted him being chosen high. Lot of talent though, particularly going after the ball and being physical with ample size. Doesn't drop the ball. Will be effective on crossign routes then running in open field. No way he was going back to school for Sr. year. Had heart irregularity at Combine that Cowboys dismissed as isolated.

2...Sean Lee. Some scouts see him as an OLB. Might need to add some bulk if he plays ILB for Cowboys. Experienced, well coached, and wants to succeed badly, but has had injury issues. Not the prospect of, say former Nittany Lion Posluzny, but should be a solid pro. Should help as Nickel LB right away.

4...Akwasi Owusu Ansah. Stock rose mightily after workouts in post season. Scouts like his size, athletic skills and range. Was a dominant player on small college level who looks like a nice prospect. Has some injury history, including shoulder. Can make an early mark returning kicks.

6a...Sam Young. Started all 50 games during his college career, a school record. Young become the first player in school history to make debut as a starting OL. Pretty powerful, but lacks versatility. Projects as a RT.

6b...Jamar Wall. Not real productive last season on a mediocre defense. Wall had 58 tackles and 2 INTs last year. Aggressive. Likes to hit, but lacks speed. Did somebody say Roy Williams?

7...Sean Lissemore. Moves well. Experiencd. Had 66 tackles as a Sr. last season, with 14 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and 2 INTs. Looks like a 3rd stringer or PS player for this season.

Good Move...Cowboys didn't maneuver too much in 1st round or panic anywhere.

Tell Me Why...Some love Bryant's skill set. We wonder about his attittude.

Could Surprise...AOA also could play CB and return kicks.

I thought they were overly generous with their draft grades.

In fact, I don't recall anyone getting less than a B-level grade.

It surprised me that they didn't like the Bryant pick more.

I am curious about the way Dez is portrayed. The only issue I am aware of is lying to the NCAA about his interraction with Deion. It wasn't smart for sure, but it seemed more like the action of a scared kid than an arrogant attitude problem. Are there other incidents that I'm not aware of? Does anyone know what his college and high school coaches and teammates say about him?

I hadn't read that far. No one did. So they think we had one of the worst drafts.

Yeah.

I don't agree with them on that point.

I think we went the quality-over-quantity approach, specifically with the first two picks and I applaud them for it.

I just wish they had followed that approach last season rather than drafting 12 players, several of whom didn't end up making the team.

I don't get how a publication like Lindy's doesn't understand that a 4-3 OLB is the equivalent of a 3-4 ILB. Unless they're implying that he should be a 3-4 OLB, which is even more silly.

Embarrassing ...... a copy of this should be placed in each of our rookies locker.

If I recall...Mike Singletary....head coach of the SF 49ers...and not a bad ILB during his playing days...phoned the Cowboys after they drafted Sean Lee...and said "you got my guy...he is the best ILB to come out of college since Patrick Willis". And this was AFTER the Raiders had used a top 15 pick on the kid out of Alabama. I think I will trust our scouts and the words of Mike Singletary.

And even moreso, and I have been beating this drum for a while...once we got our ILB play to come close to matching our OLB play...this 3-4 will REALLY take off. I appreciate Bradie and Keith....but they don't make plays. I am hopeful Jason Williams and Sean Lee will fix this. So this was much more of a need then some realize.

This.

BTW it was a much better magazine when Don Heinrich was alive.

It's called "sales".:)
A fan picks up the magazine, sees that as a positive, likes it, buys it.
Give them a D, they put it back on the rack, look at the next one.

so can you confirm this?

I dont know how I could any more then I did. Only one person on this board I have ever confirmed sources with and even then there are some things we just cant tell each other.

I guess you have to take it at face value. I understand how that can be hard for some people so no hard feelings.

I was one of those. But I'll defer to Wade on all things defense. He likes Lee, I like Lee. He thinks we need to upgrade MLB play, so do I.

I'm very excited for this defesne in 2010.

no hard feelings here. Just want our ILB play to get better...glad to hear MANY think it will with the addition of Lee. I know many appreciate James and Brookings...and they have been great for the lockeroom. But we need more impact plays from the ILB position and Bradie is NOT Ray Lewis, so I don't see why he would not go unchallenged beyond this year. If I recall, one of the first things Wade wanted to do when he got here was get rid of Bradie....he has since backed down from that. Which is the politically correct way to handle this I might add. But our first pick in the draft LAST year was an ILB....and our 2nd pick in the draft THIS year was an ILB...that tells me the staff see's what I see.

Our current ILB play is very good - I have no complaints. But you are right that James is not the kind of impact player that can't be upgraded, and Brooking isn't exactly a youngster who still has a long future ahead of him, so Lee may be a very good fit.
