Linebacker depth is going to be so clutch this year.

I feel bad for players like Octavien and Hodge, but its pretty obvious who the coaches have interest in.

Ware - Brooking - James - Spencer
B. Williams - Carpenter - J. Williams - Butler

Brooking and James will hopefully only be two down players at the most this year.

And maybe Williams and Butler can come into the mix every other set of downs.

Our linebackers looked a little burnt throughout the game last year. But if our backups can really spell them with significant playing time, our defense is not only going to be nasty, but we'll also find ourselves in position where we can trade some linebackers for draft picks in the future.

Don't forget Curtis Johnson. Wade seems like he likes him. Had some injuries last year, but he could fill a spot.

Man I just really believe if push came to shove some of those outside guys (The quicker ones) could play inside...

I would have liked to have seen Dallas make an offer for Oakland's Thomas Howard. I think he's a guy that could actually push Bradie James for his spot.

I wonder if Howard would have been OK with going from a starter in Oakland to a backup in Dallas. It's not like it's a demotion :p

I like Howard too.... but him never playing in a 3-4 before worries me.

I really don't think Carpenter will make the final roster this year... the guy clearly has maxed out his potential.

And I don't think he's reached his potential yet. If he ever learns to get physical he'll be hard to keep on the bench. The guy can run and cover.

I don't think Bobby Carpenter is suddenly going to become a physical player.

But he had a good year in the nickel where that is less of a flaw.

I'll understand if we keep him or decide to use him in a trade during the draft.

I don't see Carpenter as part of the team's future in 2011 and beyond.
