If we could only draft two players at the positions above what two positions would best improve the team and what order in this draft?

I think it depends on what rounds they are going to be addressed. If Vea is available I would think him and a linebacker later on would be the most bang for the buck.

If you aren't taking Vea I think two linebackers is the way to go in rounds 2-4.

If you pick 3 linebackers with your 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks, the odds are about 75% of getting a single decent starting LB.

If you really want a LB, I'd try to spend a 1st on it.

Without a trade up, I firmly believe at this point that Vea is off the table, and no longer an available option unless we decide to trade up and I don't honestly see us doing that, spending the resources, to move up for Vea, unless this team has had a radical change of opinion on the value of the position, we will see.
Payne would be my plan B, but would have a hard time passing on Hernandez IMO, he is similar in value, but just a much higher percentile hit honestly, man amongst boys at his position.
LB next, or if a top CB slips.
Fact is 19 is BPA all day and if we reach there or target, will be a mistake.
Its easy at 19, just sit back and wait for it to fall, someone will be there.
Bad thing is getting over anxious, and spending necessary resources on a target player.

If they feel like trading up to get Vea would turn this defense around.....I think it would... Then yes it is worth it, depending on what we give up of course

If you can get vea I'd say DT & LB. If not i don't see a DT that is an instant impact guy who is a huge upgrade over what the cowboys currently have so I'd go fs & lb .

I agree with your post, and that was sort of the gist of my OP. I think how we address the holes on defense (and how much good we will get out of the draft pick) will depend where that pick is addressed.

I think if we don't take Vea that we may be better off taking another defensive position over DT as the value may not be there.

I really think we will GO OL in the first in some manner (especially in a trade back scenario).

We haven't had a decent safety for a very long time, but I don't think one will be available with our first-round pick. Our best bet for value will probably either be DT or LB in the first round, and frankly, we can get by with lesser safety play if the front seven is stout.

I'd like to see us go with these three positions in some order in the first three rounds, then add another linebacker and safety in the later rounds. On offense, I think we are mainly looking for backups or competition while there is a clear need to upgrade the starters on defense. (The one area on offense that could be argued is guard, but I don't think there's a great an urgency because of the addition of Fleming.)

See one mock has us taken DJ Moore.
