But if you would run a bit more balanced offense, it would be much, much harder to stop those guys. Not telling you anything you already don't know Jobs, this I know as well.

Yeah, overall they need to at least have the threat of running for the defense to have to worry about. I'd just like them to be able to run the ball on 3-3 and make it a reasonable amount of the time. They are getting into too many 3rd and longs IMO.

Well, I've know Risen for a long time and trust me, this is not complaining from him. This is just a little subtle humor.

I'm glad you've known him for a long time. Thank goodness for his subtle humor because you never know with him.

The genius of RS is his intentional vagueness. He is a misunderstood genius -- by definition and by design.

Your work is very appreciated around here. You always bring good facts to your arguments and it's not to complain it's to educate. Thank you for all your hard work.

Hoping for the best. I really do think coaching and playcalling could work wonders for this roster.

You may be right. I think having a reasonably healthy roster would tell us where we are. I think this is a playoff team. I don't know if I'd call them a SB contender but it is possible with a decent defense.

Great stuff as always Percy, this hire seems like it could potentially lift the Cowboys to a power house NFL offense, that is if they're able to increase production from 3rd down and gain more yards (while maintaining efficiency), something Linehan seems to know about. I guess we'll find out how much of it was their players or the actual scheme.

One would suspect the playbook and players have just as pronounced effect on third down as does Linehan.

I understand there might be a menu of plays that have heretofore not been called, if Garrett's playbook contains something similar.

But the pass catch group of players will also have a marked effect on the results.

I believe it will be difficult to assume anything until this team takes a pract5ice field, and then a game.

What was the passing rating on third-down passes targeted to Beasley?
Take your pick from:
14 of 18 146 yd 1 td 0 int 119.0
14 of 18 146 yd 1 td 1 int 95.8
14 of 18 146 yd 1 td 2 int 79.4

Depends on the INT vs. the Commanders that was deflected just beyond the LOS, and the play in Philly when Tanner dragged his defender into Romo's passing lane. Both were Beasley targets, neither INT was even remotely his fault.

Beasley was very good as a small target in a high-traffic area.

I hope Romo can get the ball to them. This past season was not the Romo that we knew.

Some of the 3rd problems and not throwing to dez and being more aggressive has to fall on romo. Not all but some.

Which brings up something I had not considered.

Each quarterback has strong routes and weak routes because of arm strength, or accuracy.

With a new play caller, I wonder if there is a learning curve for the guy in the booth to understand the strengths and weaknesses of his new quarterback. And what throws he is comfortable with, and what ones does he worry about because of the window available.

Seems game time is the only real time a coach can experiment and find those windows where his new QB can take advantage. Live fire being the arbiter of what is and what is not over practice which may be running at half speed, or against familiar players.

Interesting question.
