This is the thumbnail in the sports sense, but applies to business:
  1. Overpaying aging free agents
  2. What worked in the past still works (Hello, Microsoft)
  3. Listening to the fans too much (things may change faster than they realize - they don't know everything that's going on)
Note the zinger at the end: "When in doubt be more Dan Rooney and less Jerry Jones."


This is from a sports site, so it's casting the Cowboys as a bad poster boy instead of a role model is just another sign of the times. As an example that knows both sports and business, Mark Cuban would be my choice.
