IRVING, Texas -- When the Dallas Cowboys traveled to Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday for Paxton Lynch's private workout, they were met by senior director of college and pro personnel and senior personnel executive Lionel Vital.

Vital joined the Cowboys recently after a nine-year run with the Atlanta Falcons, including the last three as the team’s director of player personnel. His role with the Cowboys will evolve, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.

“Obviously we brought him right down in the middle of things because it’s a unique situation and we felt like it was great to get a guy like that," said Jones. "Obviously Jerry and I liked him but Will [McClay], it was important for Will to get him. We’ll go through the draft and we’ll look at the whole thing and there’ll probably be a little restructuring. Will will make a recommendation to Jerry and I and I’m sure that we’ll support it.”

Vital, who will report to McClay, who runs the Cowboys’ draft process and pro scouting, came highly recommended not only by McClay, but the Cowboys sought opinions from New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome.

This Will McClay has a ton of juice with the Jones family. Maybe he has more pictures of Jerral Wayne in the restroom with strippers.

That's one of the better things I took away from this.

Whether you're a fan of McClay or not (I am), it's good to see that the Jones duo are at least delegating and valuing the input of others.

That Jerry doesn't also set standards based upon counseling and plenty of outside imput...is purely a myth. He has always laid a foundation as to advice and values in standards throughout the industry. Not just those on his payroll.

He probably got a lot of love after the Frederick find (I was 100% wrong on my initial reaction) and is getting us great finds in the 1st. I do hope the latter picks improve but if he was behind that move, it does give him some great pull in the FO structure we have in DAL.

Later picks are later picks, man. It's not like the rest of the league is finding All Pros every year in the 5th round. You can only have 53 guys.

I hope it results in better drafts and player acquisitions for the team.

Look @ Atlanta right now......They are a mess....and have only 5 draft picks to clean up that disaster. Mark me down as concerned/doubtful that this guy is our savior.

I will be impressed once this team starts finding players in the later rounds of the draft. I think their headed in the right direction with this hire.

I'm surprised Ciskowski hasn't moved on to a different team. He is basically getting demoted again. (not a complaint, an observation)

I don't think he could get a job anywhere else. The only reason he is still in Dallas is because he is a part of Jerry's good ol' boy network. Why not kick back in your executive office and collect that huge paycheck while playing solitaire?

This is how I look at it too. How many voices do you need? If someone isn't getting it done, you fire their ***. It's that simple.
