Quite a contrast to the Lions and Dan Campbell for sure. Detroit doesn't have half the talent Dallas does but plays their guts out. It is the culture in Big D that coddles mediocrity. Jerry loves headlines and press after all, He's probably the best hot dog salesman in the NFL. I believe what the team needs is a hard taskmaster in the mold of Jimmy or Parcells. Now, people say that "today's athlete" is a different animal that does not respond to discipline. That may be true but, I know for certain that all the headlines and press coverage surrounding Dallas is detrimental to success. I was very disappointed when Parsons and several others began reading press clippings and speaking out about the Lion and the Eagle.
It is also detrimental to see players who get their payday and fall off the face of the earth. Jimmy left Irvin on the tarmac and Aikman at the stadium on the team airplane and bus once. No one was immune to the accountability that was in place. I know many of you recall him cutting Curvin Richards for muffing a punt late in the season .. just to send a message.
There are simply too many distractions playing for this team - just like playing for the Yankees in MLB. It takes a dedicated, focused group to go hard after success and Dallas is not that. If the players, who are for the most part, young and immature, can't or won't create an atmosphere of success, then the Coaches must. If they cannot work with the players on the roster, then they need to go .. the players, not the Coaches.
Guaranteed money is a problem -
Feeling the need to pay someone the "going market rate" is a problem without some way to tie future performance to compensation
Jerry's need to be recognized is a problem
Playing for a "Spotlight Team" is a problem
The need for discipline and some strict guidelines is desperately needed. I just don't know where it comes from or, if today's game and players will allow it.
