Lions/Texans game tells me the game has left Jerry behind

Watching these two teams play, the mechanics, the speed, play calling and execution...

all have us looking slow and apathetic.

I'd say CD, Overshown, and maybe Parsons...all play with a "modern" skillset. Of course our kickers are great. A handful of guys.

But...it all comes down to the way Jerry wants to operate, eh?

Maybe you can put all this in better perspective?

You left out Bland . He’s a building block along with Tyler Smith Beebe and to be honest I like the direction of the OL . You said “ Texans Lions “ game they both lost ….but I get what you’re saying .

My plan to bring this team back to playoff football is invest heavily through the draft and a few well placed FA in your defense and add a second back to Dowdle and a second WR to Lamb .

Dak should be treated as a high paid bus driver in other words with a young aggressive line protecting him and sufficient weapons to go down the field you can go from 7 wins to 11 with next seasons schedule

The dude is a freaking grandpa bro! Of course it’s passed him by!!!!

The new Commanders GM handed Quinn 6 starters on D 2 each on the line LB and secondary . Dallas added Kendrick’s through FA .

Yeah...sorry...that was VERY early this morning during my insomnia session..

I'm glad the point still makes some sense!

Yes.....bland seems energetic and driven. There might be a few others too...but my overall...overwhelming feeling...is that our team just doesn't LOOK...like other competing teams. We have the best of everything...

except one, it seems. An he is reflected by the team that's on the field.

You better figure out a way to Re sign guys like OSA & Dowdle then add to them in FA .

I agree, yes Jerry is the main problem with his counterproductive structure and decisions. Yes, Dak is limited. However, what I watched was teams who executed their plays very well, and were well coached. The creativity in offensive schemes and defenses hitting and playing hard, I saw a coaching advantage.

The thing I'm glad about MM leaving is the “ look of the NFL passing Dallas “ as seen through MM calling plays in that scheme .
Need a new aggressive HC/ OC .

You know what Steve Spagnulo should be brought in for an interview and ask him who he would hire as an OC . That was a clinic he ran on Stroud and Houston

There is definitely issues with the roster construction and it starts with the blocking, running game, and dts. Hopefully Jerry is more aggressive in the offseason, because you can't sell the same team.

I mean it's a bit of a stretch to say the Eagles are "laden" with our former personnel. Isn't it just Moore?
I believe a couple of our guys play for them . But the point is, both clubs are using our staff and players we didn't want to be where they are right now. It's very damning of our front office and partly why MM is gone.

I agree but more importantly, it tells me how much coaching and elite QB play matter. To see a rookie QB and new OC score almost 50 points to go toe-to-toe with one of the best and talented offenses in the league on this stage, is amazing. Hate the Commanders all you like but any average football fan can respect what they did. Daniel is a rookie and I won't use him to tear down other players but man, he has ice in his veins. He took a team with one playmaking WR and a couple of elite players on defense on his back. One of the best games by a rookie QB I have ever seen but hats off also to Quinn.
To be fair, Washington was playing a defense that was giving up a lot of points to teams due to all the injuries they had. Can only replace so many starters before it falls apart.

MM is gone because our skinflint owner wanted to go cheap.

No, Jerry was never a good GM.
He's holding the team back.
Exactly.

Someone said it perfectly on one of the podcasts during the season. Thru the years, Jerry & co. have done a good job occasionally of assembling a decent amount of talent, but never has constructed a great team. So while you get the 10+ win regular seasons here and there, when you get in the playoffs you always flame out and falter against the better constructed TEAMS.

Dan Campbell and Goff had the clock strike midnight and they turned back into pumpkins. Dans greatest quality is also his greatest downfall. His aggressiveness. Live by it, die by it. Goff was relied on too heavily. I thought the Lions should be using the 2 stud rbs much more, to keep the defense on the field longer but they never did that. They got too cute , too aggressive and the other team took advantage. Ben Johnson's play calling wasn't great. I'm sorry, I'm just not seeing it. I saw a guy that was throwing crap against the wall to see what sticks. They went away from the run too much. This played into Washingtons hands.
That is often a problem I see with these dynamic OC at times - they get too cute. Gibbs was ripping off 8-10 yard runs consistently, and even Montgomery had some good gains on the ground. I felt like the Detroit offense was looking for big pass plays down the field too much.

Jerry has been behind the whole time. He has no idea how to build a roster. He operates according to contracts and jersey sales.

Jerry never caught up with the game in the first place.

exactly! Instead of being more patient and handing it off, they got greedy and wanted the chunk plays. Like you said, they were gashing them on the ground, and they made a decision to get overly aggressive and over thought themselves. I think Ben Johnson just had a learning moment last night. Glenn didn't do anything wrong as he was working with what he had after all the injuries. The D was on the field way too much which is why the commodes had their way. A byproduct of the poor play calling and turnovers by the offense and Johnson. Washington outcoached them, out schemed them. It hurts because those were our guy's last year.
