I bet one of these guys is our next DC. You know how the Joneses love to promote from within.

Edwards coached some good defenses as the Vikings DC a few years ago.

Sorry guys, I was trying to eat breakfast and type but hit the wrong key before I could complete the thread title (lol). My question is which assistant(s) gets the pink slip.

Who's impressed you given the circumstances this season?

Nolan. Someone had them swarming to the ball yesterday and I liked it. But I doubt it was nolan.

Any new DC should get to hire his own staff, just like any HC should get to pick their coordinators.

that’s one of the big issues with letting a coach go after a year. You don’t have to just eat that salary, but typically the salaries of every coach under that one too.

I'd rather stick with Nolan and acquire whatever players he is looking for then switch to any of these guys.

IF you're going to hire a new defensive coordinator then do it the right way.

Mike Zimmer may be available and i'm sure the Jones's would back up the brinks truck to get him. Heck they might even just get rid of McCarthy for him.

Also, getting rid of McCarthy and offering Eberflus the job has to be in the back of their mind.

Defensive coaches
whats your point list of....

so you can google dc.com and find the list..you should be proud, who taught you that skill of redundant access to old information?

btw list the Dallas defense that was supposed to start

now list the injuries', cuts, and the names of the players that are now starting along the DL and DBs at te top!

not one of the DT are starters, so when you start 3rd stringers and sub with 4/5th stringers on the DL it might be tough go for LBs

Dbs worse some of those dudes dont even make normal PS list before c19 expansion..

this D is shell of itself and the coaches have nothing to work with and its changes weekly and in games . guys dropping like flys series to series..

if you dont get continuity and talent make teams go from average to good or better to great..

a record number of cuts, trades, and injuries' all over this team has caused us to be at 4-9 and that just FACT not excuses..

wake up stop hating and see that teams decimated by injurys and have a new staff trying to implement new schemes with bunch of new players never had chance. Seriously THINK with pure emotion of the current record and what your eyes see and pug in common sense..

no point to this thread because its being discussed on a daily basis, noting new is going to happen week to week other then more injuries'..playing with street players will get you streets results..

Yeah. No.

I'd rather have Edwards. Nolan is mediocre.

Prepare yourself. Nolan could be gone this offseason. Maybe a couple of other defensive coaches.

I always liked his coverages and how he disguised them before coming to Dallas.

My #1 problem with him here is our run fits.

There is just huge gaps in the run defense all the time.

I think Dallas thought they would be playing with a lead a lot and they wanted to build a defense based on that.

I don't know what the stats are but i'd bet we have held a lead less than any team in football this year. I can't imagine it being worse than it is in Dallas.

We are always behind and we almost never score first.

Dak's rookie year we used to jump out on teams and Zeke teams the rest of the game. Now it's just a mess.

MM actually said his goal was to score fast and often and turn the game over to his DL.

His coverages? It was one of the criticisms in Atlanta.......... his coverages were not great. A lot of confusion at times because of his scheme. It's happened quite a few times to us this year, where half the secondary thinks they are in man and half is playing zone. Aikman pointed out this in the last game. You had two prominent NFL CBs criticize Nolan's D - Asante Samuel and Richard Sherman.

Sticking with Nolan is just going to lead to more mediocre Cowboys football.

It seems the only way to play defense in the NFL anymore is just be basic.

Just bend don't break.. Keep everything in front of you.. Don't give up big plays.. Keep point totals low. Allow FG's.

We should've just stuck with what we have been doing because in reality very few teams play good defense and even if we drafted right and had the best coaches the NFL is just against teams playing quality defense and they have built the league that way.

Defensive coaches

Whether outside hire or an internal hire- either it's gonna be no more than one retaining coach, or none at all and new hires totally from scratch.
Either way, i'd like the new DC to have a choice in his own assistants, not for management to force to keep a " Ben Bloom" because they personally like him so much.
That's what caused eventual mutiny clash between defensive assistants.
That's one of the things i'd wonder that would prevent Richard from being in DC consideration.

Me? ...I'd want Tomsula, and the DB coaches gone for sure.
Run gap defense, mass confusion, lack of pass rush and secondary coverage confusion and development was clearly In disarray all year long, from beginning to end.
Even before all the late injuries.
And Leave it up to new DC if they want Lett or Edwards staying.

I think there is a pretty wide chasm between being basic (Richard/Marinelli) and complex (Nolan).

He's just not a very good DC.

What difference does it make?

Changing coaches is a futile gesture when it continues to be the same person making those coaching decisions and eventually undermining the efforts of the coaches he chose.
