List of things I want to see after bye

I am so pleased and excited about this team. I love that we are 6-1. I do feel that we have room for improvement, however. Also, I hope the team will continue to do some things that were highly successful prior to the bye.

OFFENSE:
1. Romo tucking and running more when he has an open lane. Sometimes he forces a pass when he has wide space to run and get the first down. There were about 3-4 plays against NE when he had the deep route open, but settled for the underneath stuff, even with no pressure rushing him.

2. Romo stretching the field again. He did it early in the season, but in the last few games, he seems to be set on the intermediate and dump off routes.

3. Romo not forcing the ball to Witten. He has turned into Linus the last few games. Pass to Witten. Pass to Witten. Pass to Witten. I love that Witten is involved, but let's spread the ball around again.

4. Stop all the stupid penalties. I am talking about false starts, illegal procedure, illegal shifts, personal fouls, and even delay of games. I will say that the one against TO in the NE game was bogus, as was the one against Buffalo. Still, he knows there is a target on his back. Catch the ball and then hand it to the official. I don't mind a holding penalty here or there, especially if it keeps Romo from getting killed. Just knock off the pre- and post-snap penalties.

5. Barber starting a game or two, just to change things up. Keep splitting time, but let MB3 have his chance to ignite the team in the beginning.

6. Continue utilizing the no huddle offense throughout various moments in games, especially in the beginning.

7. Use JJ and MB3 in a split backfield during a couple of drives a game. I think it could add a positive wrinkle to our offense.

8. Get Stanback on the field. I want to see what he can do against other CBs, not just ours.

9. Hopefully get Terry Glenn back by Thanksgiving or GB so he can get in game shape for the playoffs.

DEFENSE:
1. Get Anthony Henry back for Philly. It would give us a very nice CB trio with Newman, Henry, and Reeves.

2. Get Tank back for the Giants. Ratliff needs a breather during games. I am hoping Tank can come in and be at least 75% of the player he was in Chicago. If so, that would be a tremendous lift for the interior of our defense.

3. I would like to see a few formations where we use Ware, Spencer, and Ellis at the same time. I would like to see this about 4-5 times a game. They can rotate Ware and Spencer between OLB and ILB. If they do this, I want Bowen and Hatcher in as the DEs. I think it would definitely be our most potent pass rush unit.

4. I want to see more Watkins. He is showing himself to be better with every game. I am really pleased with his progression so far.

SPECIAL TEAMS:
1. Use Stanback and JJ on KOs. Put TT on the bench and never let him get up. I think JJ would be able to use his explosiveness more, and it would also allow him to get more in the flow of the game and get his legs warmed up. Stanback can use his speed and elusiveness. I bet our KRs would improve leaps and bounds if these two replaced TT.

2. Use Stanback on punts. Crayton is ok, but he has fallen in love with the fair catch, plus he has the best hands on offense, so let's leave him there. I don't want Newman ever returning another punt, he is too valuable to our defense.

I agree with everything expect Stanback as a PR. He isn't shifty enough to be back there.

honestly, how do we know he isn't shifty enough? i have yet to see him back there. however, i don't like the idea of Crayton and Newman doing it. I want them to focus on Offense and Defense, respectively.

Just let the linemen block better on running downs....PLEASE!

Oh yeah....and a more balanced offense.

Oh yeah, one more....just keep winning!

Excellent. I especially like the things you want from Romo. Tuck it and run a little more for first downs. Look for someone other than Witten and throw it down the field more. I like aggressive Romo better than bus driver Romo.

Forget that Bills game Romo!

I don't know about that. All the college highlights I've seen of him, he looked pretty shifty when running with the ball. Maybe not Reggie Bush shifty but "shiftier" than Crayton for sure.

If the defenses are going to sit back in Cover 2, Witten will be open all day. He catches 68 percent of the passes thrown to him and averages 8.71 yards per pass attempt. So why not keep throwing to him?

It seems as if he is forcing it to Witten. I am not talking about taking what the defense gives you or even hitting Witten when he is wide open. He seems to be throwing it to Witten over and over, even when there are 2-3 defenders all around him.

Unless it causes interceptions, what's the problem?

the problem is he did it against Minnesota on 3 straight plays and we had 3 straight incompletions. Witten was double covered on two of the plays. Romo was forcing the issue. I am sure he could have found an opening to get TO or Crayton the ball or even checked down to a back on at least one of the plays.

I am glad he has a rapport with Witten. I just don't like him forcing it to Jason.....just get it to him in the flow of the offense. In the last 3 games, it seems he has been trying to force feed Witten, instead of just letting it happen. At least that is how it has looked from my vantage point on TV.

I believe the NFL Network gives angles that vary those from the other networks....however, I haven't caught any of the games on NFL replay yet. So, I can only go by what I am seeing during the live telecast.

At any rate, we are 6-1....and aside from the Buffalo game, Romo is having one helluva year.

I would like to see us run the ball more effectively in the first half.

That never happened against Minnesota. He had two straight incompletions to Witten in the fourth quarter, but up until that point, he was 10-for-11 throwing to Witten.

Ad in more sure-handed tackling (especially behind the los) and I'm right there with ya, Jimz31.

Very astute, indeed.
I'm gonna give some thought to those two gems.
