Live Pro-Day Results 3/11: Clemson, Nebraska, Kent State + more

The pace slows down a little today as just a few big schools are on the pro-day schedule. We’ll be watching Jameson Konz of Kent State and a few other non-combine players who are working out today. There’s still some stories to tidy up from yesterday as well as notes from today’s events, so let’s get cracking. Update: Clemson

Clemson

It has been a miserable day in Clemson as the rain has been pouring down. Most of the top players did not run the forty, standing pat on their combine performances. The players went outside to do position drills which were cut short because of the rain. One source told us no one could hold onto the passes it was so wet.

We can tell you the New England Patriots will be holding private workouts for linebackers Ricky Sapp and Kavell Conner in the coming days.

Notes: Neither TJ Ward nor LeGarrette Blount will be participating in today’s pro-day event at Oregon. Both have decided to wait until UO’s second pro-day next Thursday. Ward is prospect getting a lot of play and the safety could broach the late part of round two.

One PAC Ten player who had a terrific workout late yesterday was Daniel Te’o-Nesheim of Washington. He clocked 4.67 in the forty after weighing in at 267 pounds, which is slightly heavier than his Combine weight of 263. Te’o-Nesheim stood on the rest of his combine numbers but looked terrific in position drills.

Maryland safety Terrell Skinner also had a solid day. Skinner’s forty times at 4.56 seconds, he completed 22 reps on the bench then posted a vertical jump of 36.5-inches and broad of 10’2’’.

Zipp Duncan of Kentucky started off well before hurting his hamstring. The former tight end measured 6044/298lbs then ran 4.94 in his forty before being forced to withdraw with the injury. Earlier Duncan has completed 23 reps on the bench.

In Minnesota Nate Triplett continues to move up draft boards. After weighing in at 250-pounds yesterday the linebacker posted a forty time of 4.65 seconds. Most of his marks were better than the ones posted at the combine and Triplett looked good in position drills.

At Colorado the big news was tight end Riar Geer did not workout. Considering his combine performance in which he barely broke 5-seconds in the forty then dropped a number of passes in position drills, it was disappointing that Greer did not give it another try.

Make Sure You check out our brand new forum and talk about all the workouts during today’s pro-day events!

Cleveland Browns are only team to witness Kent's Jameson Konz put up "freakish" numbers

By Tony Grossi

March 11, 2010, 1:58PM

CLEVELAND -- Kent State linebacker/fullback Jameson Konz put on an impressive display in his personal workout this morning at the school's lonely pro day.
Because Kent's pro day conflicted with those of major schools with multiple prospects, such as Nebrask, Idaho, Oregon and Boston College, attendance at Kent was scarce. In fact, the Browns were the only NFL team to send a scout.

What he saw was Konz put on an athletic display described as "freakish."
Konz measured 6-3 and 235 pounds. He was timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.41 seconds. Asked to run a second one, he timed 4.38.
Konz also posted a 46-inch vertical jump and a broad jump of 10 feet, 8 inches.
When the results are circulated Konz is expected to receive invitations to visit NFL teams for closer inspection. This is what happened to Kent quarterback Julian Edelman last year, who eventually was drafted by New England in the seventh round and became a valuable receiver/special teamer as a rookie.

Kent State has put out some athletes. There was a CB a few years ago who jumped through the building.

From a pure statistical viewpoint, Konz's pro day workout numbers put him at the top of all TEs who worked out at the NFL combine. It will be interesting to see how he performs on the field. If the guy can catch the ball he could be a nice target as a WR or H-back. 4.38 is crazy speed for a guy his size.

I believe Kent St. is the school Cribbs came from so maybe they want to try to strike gold twice.

i still believe in jason williams, have to remember he was playing in a position he had never played before insiide linebacker, and in one game if you remember when jason did play, he caused a fumble which resulted in a td score for us.

wade just has a thing about not playing rookies till jerry jones makes him.

The pace slows down a little today as just a few big schools are on the pro-day schedule. We’ll be watching Jameson Konz of Kent State and a few other non-combine players who are working out today. There’s still some stories to tidy up from yesterday as well as notes from today’s events, so let’s get cracking. Update: UAB

UAB receiver Joe Webb, who turned heads at the Senior Bowl, further impressed NFL scouts today during his pro-day workout. Webb started the day weighing 223-pounds then completed 21 reps on the bench. He also posted a vertical jump of 42.5 inches and a broad jump of 11-feet, 5.5 inches. Webb’s forty times were surprisingly fast, clocking under 4.5 seconds, with some watches reading times of 4.43-seconds. His three cone time of 6.55 –seconds and short shuttle mark of 3.91-seconds represents some of the fastest of any receiver who took part in the combine. The New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals and Oakland Raiders were on hand for the workout.

As expected Jameson Konz turned in a brilliant performance today. He measured 6-feet, 3-inches and 235-pounds, ran his forty in times as fast as 4.38 seconds and posted a vertical jump of 46-inches. There is some debate as to what position Konz will play at the next level, linebacker or tight end, but several in the scouting community think the athletic prospect is a late round sleeper, much like his former teammate Julian Edlemen.

Northwestern

The Northwestern workout is split into two groups. This morning prospects that were not part of the NU program but are from the area took to the field.

Southern Illinois running back Deji Karim had a huge day. The ball carrier posted a forty time of 4.38 seconds, touched 43-inches in the vertical jump, 10’3’’ in the broad and completed 19-reps on the bench.

Cornerback Patrick Stoudamire of Western Illinois had a solid showing. He measured 5102/205lbs, posted forty times in the 4.45 second area as well as a broad jump of 9’11’’.

Minnesota

More from the Gophers workout yesterday.

Linebacker Simoni Lawrence improved on his combine numbers, running his forty in 4.56 seconds, his three cone in 6.83-seconds and 4.25 in the short shuttle. Lawrence stood on his vertical jump from Indy but did post 10’7’’ in the broad.

James Ruffin of Northern Iowa also participated in the Gophers workout yesterday. Ruffin measured 6034/264lbs, ran 4.78 in the forty, posted a short shuttle time of 4.58, touched 31 inches in the vertical jump and completed 27 reps on the bench.
