Today is the day Rob Gronkowski is scheduled to run and workout for NFL scouts. There’s been much rumor and speculation recently about the health of his back and how fast he’ll run today. The workout kicks-off 11AM Arizona time and we’ll update you as we get results. First we must tidy up some things from yesterday. Update: Gronkowski runs!
Arizona
Junior Rob Gronkowski ran well today, timing his forty’s in 4.66 and 4.65. His older brother Chris was slower, running in the mid 4.8’s (4.85). Almost 20 teams were on hand for the workout. Gronkowski weighed in at 258lbs, six less than the combine. His vertical jump was 32-inches.
More as it comes in.
Notes:
Lost in the excitement of Kyle Wilson’s pro-day performance yesterday was the fact he weighed in at 185-pounds, nine less than his combine weight when he completed 25 reps on the bench press. Though not a big deal it is worth mentioning. In the past it was protocol for players to show up at the combine looking ripped and strong, then put up good numbers on the bench press, only to lose weight (and usually strength) so as to run faster times at pro-day.
Running back Dimitri Nance of Arizona State had a solid performance yesterday. Nance, who weighs in the 219lbs range, completed 21 reps on the bench, posted a 25-inch vertical jump and 9’6’’ broad jump. His three cone time was 6.88 and short shuttle 4.28 seconds. Nance ran times in the forty of 4.59 and 4.62. He’s a ball carrier that catches your eye on film with his vision and hard charging style.
South Dakota State had a dozen scouts on hand for their pro-day yesterday, in large part to watch defensive end/outside linebacker Danny Batten, who did not disappoint. Batten measured 6024/244, posted a 35-inch vertical jump and 10’3’’ broad. His forty times were clocked between 4.66-to-4.72 seconds while Batten’s three cone was a very swift 7.04 seconds. Batten completed 30 reps on the bench during his first pro-day workout which took place March 23rd. In many ways Batten reminds us of a better version of former Wheaton star Andy Studebaker, a 6th round draft pick in 2008 now playing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
