I saw Ron White years ago in upstate NY. I can't remember the town. I was afraid he was going to rehash his old stuff. He didn't. It was all new stuff. I enjoyed it.

I saw one of Bill Hicks last live shows before he died. Sadly, most don't seem to remember him. I really think he would have gone on to big things if cancer hadn't cut his life short at the age of 32.
some say: Alex Jones is Bill Hicks:)

I think Foxworthy's schtick got old anyway. Not as quick as Larry the Cable Guy's, but the novelty wore off. He does have a quick wit, so maybe some audience participation would be a better way for him to go.

I was thinking Larry the Cable Guy too after I read your first sentence on shticks that didn’t last. I actually like listening to Foxworthy during interviews or improv, he does have some talent and not all shtick.

8 of my favorite comedian shticks:

#1 Mitch Hedberg
#2 Andy Kaufman… the master of shticks
#3 Stephen Wright
#4 Andrew Dice Clay… not for everyone
#5 Bobcat Goldswath
#6 Pee Wee Herman
#7 Laurel and Hardy
#8 Penn and Teller

8 that got old real quick:

#1 Larry Cable Guy
#2 Pauly Shore
#3 Yakov Smirnoff
#4 Judy Tenuta
#5 Jeff Foxworthy
#6 Lewis Black
#7 Carrot Top
#8 Rich Little

I think you can classify some of the more famous comedians too like Sam Kinison and Rodney Dangerfield as somewhat shtick but capable of branching out. I don’t think of Gilbert Godfried as shtick because the guy comes across that wierd in everything. From what I’ve read, Kinison was just as wild and crazy offstage after his head injury. I like to watch clips from the good impressionists, but they do become a shtick if that’s all they can rely on like Frank Caliendo and Aries Spears.

I saw George Carlin live a few years before he died. We made the mistake of doing a marathon of his older shows, which ruined it a bit, since they recycle jokes. He was still great though.

I like Louis CK. I like how he came back and owned the fact that he had some issues with the sexual harassment stuff.

I have only paid to see one stand-up comedian live... that was Richard Pryor.

One of the greatest shows I've seen live was Robert Schimmel, good God he was hilarious. he passed from cancer, but what an amazing comedy mind and performer. I highly recommend you look for his content.

I saw Jim Gaffigan in Philly for free. Pretty good show.

Also Darryl Philbin (guy from the office). Was a little disappointed in that one.

Been to a few..

Most recently Dave Chapelle, Sebastian Maniscalco, Bill Burr

way back in the day.. Eddie Murphy Raw, Andrew Dice Clay

Would love to have seen Richard Pryor & Bernie Mac!
Agreed. Eddie Murphy Raw and Andrew Dice Clay New Years Eve Night, both outstanding. The Diceman was one of the first to experience Wokeism a long long time ago.

Dice was great. One of the funniest storie SC that I have heard lately was Eddie Murphy telling about starting as an unknown comedian. When he came off the stage, Rodney Dangerfield told him that he needed to clean up his language if he wanted to make it. Three years later when he had made it big, Eddie was in a restroom at the urinal and Rodney came in and was using the urinal beside him. Rodney turned to him and asked “ Who Knew?”. That was the only thing Rodney said after three years.

Free? Damn, that's a good free show. I've been hoping he'd come around for a while.

Stephen Wright was/is (does he still do it?) a very good comedian. He has his own style, he has the crazy look, and his jokes are the type you have to take a second to process and it then it all becomes funny as hell. Odd, but great.

Gilbert is definitely a schtick. There's a clip from a Howard Stern show where Gilbert leaves a voicemail to one of the guys on the show (Gary) talking about setting up an appearance or call-in. You would not believe it's actually Gilbert. When he isn't "on", the guy sounds so different that Howard says "that's Gilbert Manson". Just search for it. "Gilbert Gottfriend's real voice". I would rather meet the character than I would the man.

Regan is coming back through this fall. Thinking about getting tickets, but I've already seen him once and $100-a-pop is pretty steep for a comedian who takes requests at the end of his show to repeat jokes you've already heard.
