It seems like quite a few people on here live in Texas so I have a question. One day, I might want to up and leave to live in Texas for a while. It seems like a great place to start a business as well as just live.

With that being said, from what I've read property taxes are very high due to no income tax. If you rent a home, can you get around that completely?

You won't write a check to the tax district, your property owner will. But you'll end up paying for it through your rent.

Depending on where you're coming from, cost of living is very reasonable. In many places you can buy a modern three bedroom house in a nice neighborhood for around $180k.

No because part of the rent will take into account the property tax the owner still has to pay. Cost of living in Texas is not bad much better than many other places in the US

It's pretty similar to where I live in NJ. Prices of homes in Texas are great though. I was hoping Texas would beat the price of homes and taxes. Can't win them all though.

Austin has begun its Californication process. A lot of Yankees from New York are coming down here.

If you ask me, I say to hell with all the people coming here. Go home, Yankee. Yankee go home!

:laugh2:

You're drivin up the COL too much in Austin. That's for sure.

I'll make sure to find you if I ever do move to Texas and remind you how it's a free country. ;)

Not intended for CowboyMcCoy, I've never even been to Texas. But everything I see and a hear I like. If it were to be anywhere it would be Austin or Dallas. I live near NYC so I don't think I can be too far from a major city until I'm a little older. It would be too hard.

I don't mind hot weather. What I hate is humidity. Up hear it can be disgusting when it's only 85. It's not that humid down there right?

umm, don't move anywhere near houston, 104 in the summer with 95% humidity.

only one summer under my belt in dallas but humidity is only a factor after it rains. Or maybe I'm just used to houston idk

I lived in San Antonio, TX and the humidity is horrible there too.

Now out here in New Mexico, dry heat for most of the state. :)

I'll take a dry heat over humid heat any day.

No bueno. My sister lives in Arizona, my parents are moving there as well and I don't mind the heat there, even during the summer. I'm pretty sure it's the same as NM.

Houston is miserable in that area.

As you move north or nothwest it gradually gets less humid.
Summers are hot everywhere though. But in Dallas, for example, it is not very humid at all (right now it's 36% and actually cloudy...it gets much drier than that).
Of course, in West Texas it's dry a s abone.
