I'm a long time fan and no pro football expert by any stretch, but I'm tired of the so-called experts; I can't even read them anymore. i read more intelligent analysis of the Boys on CowboyZone. The last 2 articles I began to read and stopped were one that began with the assumption that our OL was awful against the Rams (really, all the OL?). Another talked about how JJ was undermining Red because he announced that Felix's roster spot was secure (like the writer knows that the 2 or 3 have never discussed this).

Is there anyone writing for any Metroplex outlets who has anything to listen to?

My guess would be if you want only positive and no negative, stick with Mickey Spagnola.

It's just not the local media. It's all media. Seems all they care about is trying to stir up or talk about some drama instead of producing a good story.

LOL, my favorite Mickey moment was when he claimed that the reason the Cowboys didn't make the playoffs is because they couldn't overcome the injury to backup tight end Mike Lucky.

Second was when he berated people on The Ticket for suggesting the Cowboys would sign Terrell Owens. He called the rumors ridiculous (he hated TO as an Eagle), then after they signed him, he instantly became the biggest TO fan and apologist in the DFW media.

Yes, because our offensive line is so incredible and has been together for so long, how can you possibly question it?

I fear for Romo's health in New York when we face that front four. They'd better put together one heck of a game plan to get the ball out of his hand quickly, or Kyle Orton might start 15 games this season.

Callahan had better get busy because Doug Free looks like something a cat threw up, and the new guards and Costa haven't played a single game together yet.

Yes he will defend a coach and player and belittle readers that write in to rip on said coach and player...until it is clear the coach or player is going to be canned or not brought back in...once that happens you can tell because at that time he will start writing stories about how they just did not have what it took and other types of things. How they had no choice other than to get rid of the coach or player. These flip flops are really kind of funny and can be quite dramatic.

In defense of Mickey....

When he was at the Dallas Times-Herald, he was a top-notch reporter and columnist, and he did none of this. He saw the writing on the wall with the advent of the internet, and he hitched his wagon to the "Propaganda Express".

All in all, he does a pretty good job in his designated role. Just don't look to him to get the real skinny on anything with the slightest amount of negativity attached to it unless the team shares that opinion.

I fear Broaddus will be hamstrung the same way eventually.

I keep seeing these threads and it makes me think of one thing.

Be the best in the league and the rhetoric changes.

Continue down a .500 path and it will not.

It isn't the journalists, it's what they are saying.

Because there aren't three people on this board that could do their job. Which is make something interesting that isn't winning consistently.

I see these threads as whining fans who want roses thrown at the team when they essentially haven't done much over the past decade and a half.

Mickey left the Tim,es herald because it went out of business.

He then wrote for Skip Bayless for two seasons. Bayless put out a fax-sports page that was sent to your fax machine.

I still have every copy because Spags was spot on about what he was saying. That would have been 92 and 93.

I received those faxes also, but I didn't keep any.

Bob Sturm.

He's objective and doesn't participate in the TMZ bullcrap. He has no agendas. He reports the facts, which is surprising because he is a talk show host.

No, think about what I'm saying to you. By office, Bob Sturm should be the TMZ-type gossiper and Calvin Watkins/Tim McMahon/David Moore should be the factual experts. Instead, it's flip-flopped.

http://sturminator.blogspot.com/

And I make nothing off of it or get nothing out of it. I'm still like Joe Flaherty's character from Happy Gilmore. "I'll buy you steak at the Red Lobster, Shooter!"

But it's the truth. Bob Sturm is a DFW media member to whom you should give your attention.

EDIT: Rainer Sabin is another guy that I've liked, but he works for DMN, which is a breeding ground for hate. So his worm may turn at any point.

I read Sturm's blog daily. Often about other sports unrelated to the Cowboys.

He is among the best when it comes to analyzing and coherently presenting a topic on the Cowboys.

Sorry but I've read Mickey since the eighties and he hasn't changed one bit.

Vela, though he wiffed badly on his Adcock prediction.

Wow. I totally forgot about that. I used to get those faxes too.

Charean Williams is one of my favorites. She keeps it pretty unbiased and doesn't go for any of the sensationalism stuff. She's a good follow in twitter, too.

Todd Archer was probably the best out there and he's changed a little bit since moving to BSPN, but he's still better than the rest.

Dan Graziano blogs the whole NFC East, but he keeps it straight for the most part and even praises the Cowboys kind of often.

Mickey is better than the majority around here will tell you.

Sturm is a must-read for me. I also think Sabin shows some promise. The one I am looking forward to, though, is Jonathan Bales, also at DMN. He actually reviews tape, which may be a first for that outlet. It remains to be seen about the quality of his observations, though. He went way overboard on Holmes after the Oakland game.

Jonathan Bales began as one of us -- a fan. So he's not exactly a mediot.

His "running the numbers" gimmick is really nothing more than what about 10 posters here on the boards do. Whoever hired him was a part of that insularity that exists amongst mediots, so they thought what Bales did was avant garde and hired him. That's how out of touch these people are. They're still mesmerized by Microsoft Outlook. Anyway, we've been doing for years what his editor think Jonathan Bales just now began doing.

But, hey, I'd rather have 10 more Jonathan Bales than 1 more Tim McMahon.
