Lock & Key

Bottom line if people take a reasonable look at Dak, he is the future, not a Dan Marino, John Elway type QB, never will be. Yes, his best traits are his game management skills. Like Troy Aikman, DAK is a game manager, the General on the field. He is smart, Intelligent and has a bright future. Look at Aikman in his second year as QB. The biggest problem with a game manager as a QB (no matter how good) you have to have a supporting caste. Zeke is a part of that. Yet, I dont care what the critics say, DEZ is NOT...... Dez is a lot of hype, avg production and not the future. This team sorely needs a WR that can stretch the field. TWILL is a possesion receiver, Beasley moves the chains then there is a big huge VOID. No WR to make the big play....or push the ball down the field.

Cowboys front office has seriously mismanaged the positions at MLB, WR, Pass Rusher.... Dont Blame DAK this kid has the IT fator that Troy Aikman had. Not prettty, not great stat, just the ability to WIN.
I'd say passrush is solved... maybe not elite, but you can win with it.

MLB is more of a question mark, in my mind. The story is not exactly told regarding Jaylon. We have to keep mind he was basically a rookie this year. The same could be said of several players, so I like the overall potential.

I'm with you regarding Dez. I think he can be great in this league, but he needs a QB who can work with his deficiencies.

Someone like Breeze or Brady would be a devastating combination that I'd be reluctant to be a part of creating as a front office that may have to face him later and subsequently rue as a result.

Dak is not that QB at this point in his career but I don't think that level is beyond him. He has the requisite want and IQ to get there. So a bit more patience may be better in the long run regarding Dez...and yes, saying that does taste like vinegar.

If they want to win with Dak now, get what you can in the way of draft picks now while Dez still has value. Place speed, hands and crisp route running at a premium over size/physicality regarding a receiver or two relatively high in the draft. Give Witten the choice of a reduced role or the highway, find the new hybrid TE/WR as well in the draft; not too high, but high enough to be competition for Rico. And revamp the offensive scheme to be up tempo and designed to Dak's specifications on an offense he can comfortably run and be a true field general.

I'm not saying they should move away from the run. I just believe some of their pass concepts do not grant the offense an competitive advantage making it a necessity for our options to out execute the opposition

In fact, if they would just fix that, the Cowboys could probably win with what they have on their present roster convincingly. But, alas, Jason believes in his scheme to what I believe may be a fault. That said, he's the guy getting paid millions, so what do I know...

The first thing you check off with a WR is his hands. He has got to have good ones. Then you go to the mental part and all that goes with it. THEN you look at size and athleticism.

Once you have a list of WR prospects who check off all three boxes then you decide what is most important- big guy who can battle and take it; smaller guy who can burn the D.
I would IDEALLY love to have the burner on one side and the big possession guy on the other. OR looking at the way the NFL has been going get a Gronk type as your big possession guy and two burners at WR.

Romo did it.

I need to see him go down the field and hit windows. He's wildly inaccurate at times. He looks uncomfortable in the pocket. His ball has no zip.

That has to change, at least the parts that can.
C'mon. Romo did that in Garrett's Pass-Happy Era. Anything that pre-dates 2014 doesn't count. And then, you are comparing Dak's sophomore season to Romo the veteran, which is hardly fair.

If they'd just put Switzer and Beasley in the slot, they could wreak havoc.

if the team had been put together last offseason right with the proper depth at certain positions with proper coaching they wouldn't be in the situation they are in
In the context of this season, yes, their backs are against the wall, but long term, the outlook is great.
