Lockout Scheduling Question

Let's say God forbid there's a lockout in 2011 that obliterates the entire season, much like the 2004-05 NHL lockout. Here's my question:

In 2012, would the league play their 2011 schedules or would they go ahead and play their 2012 schedules?

As you well know, the NFL has a scheduling formula so that every division plays each other every four years.

So let's take our Cowboys. In 2011, we're slated to play the AFC East and the NFC West. In 2012, we're slated to play the AFC North and the NFC South. Who would we play if there's a complete lockout in 2011?

I assume we would play the 2011 schedule. Just an assumption, though...

I doubt it will be a lockout, probably going to be a strike though. Not that it matters one way or another. I would imagine we play the 2011 schedual in 2012, dependent on how much of the season is missed.

As I understand it, a strike is better because there's the option of replacement players. A lockout means there's no games at all.

I really don't think it will happen. The labor agreement ends March 2011 and while I doubt a deal will be done at that moment I do think a deal will be reached before the start of training camps.

I would prefer a strike. I could handle seeing the "Rhinestone" Cowboys :D

I totally believe there will be a work stoppage, one way or the other. Sad:star:

I think what we're seeing now is a lot of posturing on both sides.

That's often what needs to happen prior to a contract being worked out.

These things don't get done right away, there needs to be the urgency of a deadline and a pending calamity to get it worked out.

This will go well into the off-season, and probably even into the Spring and maybe some of the pre-season.

Maybe some pre-season games would be lost, but I'd be surprised if ultimately we lost any regular season games because of this.

A lot of money stands to be lost on both sides, and there will be a lot of pressure as the next season nears. No one wants to lose a whole season.

Do the owners get their TV money regardless even if there is a lockout?

At what point is the season considered canceled if there is no agreement?

It could be that even some reg season game could be lost but based on the past they would play the remainder of the games. Again I seriously doubt the entire season will be lost.

First of all there can not be a lockout. The players have already voted to decertify the union. So therefore the owners will have no one to lock out.

But a strike is possible. AS for the schedule, depending on what they decide regarding the extra two games, they may just end up canceling the missed games.

Though, like others, I do think this will get worked out. If not, then Demaurice Smith will be one of the biggest fools on the planet.

If there is no union how can they go on strike? According to recent articles the owners are the ones talking about lockout.

A union can't go on strike if it doesn't exist. Also, the owners will not lockout willing workers. The lockout will come if the union itself doesn't agree to terms of collective bargaining.

The players would then be free to negotiate their own individual contracts with benefits and everything.

However, individual players can and will strike. Remember the "Scab" season? Some players crossed and some didn't.

Like I said though, this probably will not happen.

Players are not talking strike at all, they are prepairing for the owners lockout.

Yes I remember the scab games and it was the union leaders who put it together and it was the players who crossed the picket lines. Without a union supporting a strike the individal players are not going to do it own their own.

This is all on the owners by not renewing the CBA. They opted out from what I remember.
